Haven't put a knife together in a while...

So I ordered a blade and scales from knifekits.com. The handles are amber dyed, jigged camel bone. Of course the blade is damascus.

My hat's off to you knife makers. This is rather trying on one's patience.

Looks good, what gave you trouble?

To be honest, I cracked one of the scales while flaring the pins. It epoxied back together pretty well, and I think it'll stay, but I'd never sell something like that. It'll still gut deer, however.

Good job!

I have all the pieces to get one together, but I cheated and ordered the screws you use instead of pins. I would be pretty miffed if I broke a scale.

I wonder if you could build a jig to fit in a vice with multiple holes to put hardened steel pins in to match the ones you want flared. Then just crank down the vise. I wonder if that would be enough force?

No idea. All I needed was a smaller hammer. LOL!

Right? That’s entirely counter to everything I’ve ever learned about percussive maintenance.

That looks great! And yes...sometimes it gets really tedious.  That's what's great for me as far as doing it as a hobby. I can just walk away. I'm trying to live a stress free life. :P

Looks great. Me and tedious don't so well together most of the time. I'm like @Chucktshoes, if it's not work in one only needs the next hammer size up. Rinse and repeat until task is accomplished.

Hence @Grand Torino is my go to for all things sharp!

Oh, I have quite an impressive collection of his work as well.

I've used pins made out of brassing rod. Works good.

I got the blade, pins, and scales at knifekits.com, in case anyone else here wants to put one together. I can highly recommend this company.

I’ve field dressed deer with a large variety of knives, and can say this one is closer to perfect for that task than any I’ve tried.

Looks good . I've not done one in a few months. I sold one of the last I did, to a guy I work with.

Surely you have a digital camera. On your phone perhaps?

My latest effort.....and yes, the other side has a split handle.🤬

Looks great! Here is a tip for you...use smaller diameter pins. They peen easier with very little force.
