PSA AR Kit

I am looking to finally pick up an AR but I am a complete newb to the AR world. I am looking for something that would be limited to occasional range trips and home defense. Right now that role is filled by a Winchester Defender stoked with 00buck. I ran across this kit at PSA that seems to fit the bill.

I know I will need to pickup a lower, some mags and at some point some kind of optic. Any options on this kit? PSA seems like a decent choice as far as ARs go.

IMO PSA makes decent ARs, this kit is not bad for a rifle kit, but have you considered a pistol kit?  For home defense a shorter barrel makes maneuvering in confined spaces a bit easier.  PSA has both 5.56 and 300BLK, my preference, in around the same range, albeit without the BUIS, but those and optics are widely available and you get to pick some you like.

It's amazing that kit is $100.00 more than their complete Freedom nitride series rifles sold for 7 months a go. The premium series M4 w/ FN made CHF barrel I paid $689.00 for, no tax and free shipping I bought last summer is probably $1000.00 now.

Yea, all weapons and ammo have increased, but that is par for the course during elections, and now the riots and China Virus...everything is high and people are buying.

Nothing wrong with that kit but the price. Have a bit of patience and you can get it much cheaper.

Or if Biden wins (God help us), you will get if for a mere 3 times the price :)

I definitely understand that this is not the best time to buy an AR but I’m not sure when things might settle down and I’m not good at delayed gratification 😀 What kind of price would something like this be in a non-panic mode?

I have considered a pistol but I had a massive stroke back in October that completely paralyzed me. I’ve regained almost everything but my fine motor control is still a work in progress so I’m not sure how accurate I am without shouldering the stock. I was looking at the 5.56 mostly due my ignorance of the other calibers. My biggest priorities would be cost and availability of ammo. Looks like I have some more homework to do.

Thanks everybody for the input so far.

5.55/.223 ammo is currently at the highest  prices I’ve ever seen, higher I think than even the Obama years.  It has nearly doubled in price or more over the last few months pushing $.50-.60/round online before shipping, if you can find it.

Bulk Federal .556 is going for $600/case from PSA.

I put several together with quality components for less than $500.

Buy one if you want one. Nobody knows what the future holds.

I bought my first AR during the Sandy Hook fiasco. It is a Bushmaster. I am embarrassed to say I paid $975 for it. I keep it around as a reminder.

This makes me even happier about my score at the bass Pro in Springfield. 2@ $349 a case for federal .223.
