Spare parts

What are some basic but essential spare gun parts that are good to have on hand? Also, at what point does a gun start to wear out and need replacement parts?

I don't think any of my guns are anywhere near the point of needing work done. One of my pistols has about 3,000 round through it and none of the others are even close to that. But I'd like to start putting together a collection of parts for general troubleshooting, and for the possibility of a SHTF scenario.

Common wear items like springs and firing pins, I suppose. Each make/model has it's own peculiarities so there would be more to recommend based on what the firearms in question are.

I always keep an AR field repair kit handy.

I am currently starting to stock up on the little things. Springs are probably going to wear out long before anything else. Just depends on the gun. If it's a Glock I'd probably have a few spare pins lying around and such, a 1911 I'd have springs mostly.

In addition to what others have said, magazine springs and smaller things like grip screws, detent pins for an AR, etc.

I only mention those things because everybody has lost one of the above at some point--not saying they're likely to break.

Don’t keep them long enough to find out. :tinfoil:

There are too many guns and too little time to be hanging onto anything too long.

Definitely spare firing pins and springs. Other than that I truly think it depends upon the particular weapon. Best bet is to understand how each operates and what parts are being used the hardest....stock those.

I keep a large assortment of springs.

Other than that, I keep a good amount of various types of bar stock, and plenty of endmills, drill bit, and inserts for my lathe and mill.:stare:
