Like everything else, there's a massive loophole that renders it useless:

"The bill contains an exception, which would allow law enforcement to seize a gun 'if the officer reasonably believes that it is immediately necessary for the protection of the officer or another individual.'"

Another individual could be broadly interpreted by a police officer to mean yourself, someone in your family, your neighbor, or the crook down the street.

:D I don't see that as a massive Loophole. Someone correct me if I'm wrong, but can't any LEO disarm you/request you disarm while they are in your presence in an "official capacity". Seams reasonable to me,after all, they need to be sure you aren't going to shoot them in the back as soon as they turn around.....

Not sure about AL, but yes, in TN a LEO can temporarily disarm you if he feels it is needed, but he is supposed to return your handgun before discharging you.

However it looks like the AL law (without seeing the actual bill) could still allow a LEO to seize a firearm from you and keep it.

I have to say...major loophole as well.

I think that language was probably put in there to let the public know that a cop can still disarm anyone that he thinks may be a threat.

I don’t think it is a loophole; the intent is clear.
