Imagine that...free speech eliminated within the first 60 days. That's change for ya.

Bah! An isolated incident I am not too worried about, it was probably some overzealous Super-Trooper that didn't like the sign. The actions of his supervisor were correct, and I am sure the officer in question had a "talking to". If this sort of thing becomes more commonplace then I will be concerned. Frankly I think this is a non-story.

I don't agree, the officer had not reasonable right to stop the guy over a sign. the city needs to train there police better. violation of his first amendment rights? I believe so.

Look he is the first black president, not god. This nation needs to quit fawning over him.

I'm not saying the guy did the right thing, but an isolated incident does not a policy make. Who knows what was going on in the cop's head? Maybe he found out the night before that his wife was running around on him or something like that, saw a sign he didn't like, and decided to do something he shouldn't have.

I don't know about you, but I have done some bone-headed things at work that in hindsight make me wonder where I had my head inserted. I can't see making a big deal over ONE incident, especially when his boss did the right thing immediately.

I wonder what the outcome would have been if the SS had found weapons (legally possessed of course) within the sign owner's home.

Now there is a good question.

Well I will bet this guy is on the SS radar. I do agree that it was an isolated incident. I think bringing the SS was carrying it to far. No I really don't think this will become a norm. but 20 years ago I never thought we would have free speech zones or we would put into law a device ( patriot act) that ripped the hell out of the constitution.

WTH is a "free speech zone"?

WTH is a "free speech zone"?

A lot of universities have them for demonstrations...Students who want to voice their opinion on a matter must contain themselves to a designated "free speech zone." It is incredibly asinine, IMO...

No way would they have come into my home. No way. Get a warrant.

“When I was on my way there, the Secret Service called me and said they weren’t going to ransack my house or anything ... they just wanted to (walk through the house) and make sure I wasn’t a part of any hate groups.”

This is where I really have a problem with the whole deal. No way are they coming into my house without a warrant. Could they get a warrant? Probably. Would they have to have it to search? Definitely!

great, so now the cops are becoming a bunch of thought police, which means they will step on our rights even more....

that man should sue the police for every last dime available.

goodmorning comrade...

They said they wanted to return his sign, I would have made sure that a local reporter was there for the handoff. I also would have insisted that the officer who pulled me over do the returning.

Now that would have been great

It is an area were they move people so that the president or other political figure will not be bothered by Americans voicing there displeasure. GW used them all the time.

I think the whole thing is a bit overblown.......yes, the officer was in the wrong.......but if this was part of a trend, I would be worried. An isolated incident doesn't make me fear voicing my opinion. Now if KPD traffic enforcement began hassling citizen because of all the free time they had now that traffic enforcement cameras were in use, instead of taking the time to focus on real crime, then I'd be more upset.

Normally I'm all for the PD and don't mind being helpful, but yea in this case if the SS had shown up at my front door about a damn sign..."Come back with a warrant or...
