....that you would trust for reliable performance, 5.56/.223 on a budget.
I currently own an AK-variant pistol w/brace in that caliber but it's over 6lb, and as I age weight makes a difference...both at my waistline and in my defensive choices.
Haven't really been following the newer AR models, so enlighten me please.

to get the lightest possible you are likely going to have to build your own and combine all the "minimalist/lightweight" offerings from different companies for everything.

My Sig P516G2-7B is about 6 lbs without the mag. Ive seen some high end stuff at around 3 or so lbs, but cant remember where, except price of around 3k sticks in my mind...but the Keltec one is a lot less and 3.4 libs...

My no name, 8.5" BLK weighs in at 5lb 11oz & I spent no expense whatsoever.

I know a dude on another forum who built a 12" 6.8spc for around a grand that came in a hair under 3lb. All I remember of the details was that he used a skeletonized lower, carbon shroud & possibly a polymer upper.

Thanks for the replies. I'm not surprised that I would have to pay more for less...I'm sure there's a maxim/law about that somewhere.
So it sounds like 6lb-ish weights in this style are more the norm than I imagined. Live & learn....

I think if you went with a poly upper & lower & either a Blade brace, or a simple, naked buffer tube, you could get down to 5lb and stay under $400. A .300blk rather than 5.56 would help, weight wise. That's a lot of metal out of the barrel.....
