This is the most hateful thread I have ever seen on here.

Some of you all would be better served by thinking twice and posting once.

And for what little my opinion is worth if a person is getting their message across why would anyone comment on spelling or punctuation? Thats kind of weak.

To the OP, I see nothing wrong with a little venting, and blowing off some steam probably made you feel better. Nothing wrong with venting at your friends either.

Back on topic...

Although their prices run a bit high, I have always been able to negociate the price down , to what I found else where.

I have better luck with Mike instead of Brian.

I once drove from Memphis to Jackson, TN to get my permit done. I don't remember what day of the week it was that I went there, but once I got to the parking lot at around noon, I knew somethign was wrong. They were closed. Come to find out, this particular station closes on that day so they can be open extended hours on the other days of the week. With that new knowledge in mind, I made a note of the days they were open, planned my next vacation day and was one of the first people in line that morning. Oh, and even with 2 round trips to Jackson, I still spend less time than if I had gone to one of the centers in Memphis.

As for store hours, since I have two small children that LOVE to wake up at 5 AM EVERY DAY OF THE WEEK, I would love it if more places opened prior to noon on Sunday's just so I have some place to take them. They get wrestless at home, even playing in the back yard gets boring. Fortunately the zoo opens at 9 so we can usually be found there on a Sunday morning. Anyone with little ones want to meet up one Sunday, let me know. We like the chimps at the Panda exhibit.

As for spelling and punctuation, if you think anyone on here is bad, you should check out a particular member on one of the other forums that I usually frequent. The guy couldn't spell "A" to save his life. He's a nice guy though and knows a thing or two about his guns and he loves Saiga's. Mars knows who I am talking about.

Okay, gentlemen, let us all keep this on a civil tone. There is no need for

bravado, macho posturing, and thinly veiled challenges
from ANYONE. Whether anyone likes it or not, NO ONE is better than anyone else. We ALL have flaws, be it geographical challenges, typing skills, or vocabulary just to name a few. Remember, ladies and gentlemen, there has been only 1 perfect being to walk the face of this planet, and he was crucified and we have perfected tools a heck of a lot since then (nail gun anyone?) Sorry to any non-christians, you have your religious icons too and that is cool.

To stay on topic. The original poster was upset that a gun store was not open during hours which were convenient to him. I think we ALL can think of a store that we would like to have open at more convenient times for us. I know that having to "wait" to purchase a beer or a glass of wine at my favorite restaurant on Sunday is a bit rediculous, but that is the law, and if I want a beer on Sunday, I better buy it on Saturday or wait. I also wish that places like the interior of the mall opened at 9 on Sunday. They have a nice little play yard for the kids and it is climate controlled so on these hot muggy days of summer, I can take the kids to get some energy out with out having to take a shower afterwards.

The north is a fine place to live. I have lived near D.C. and in Dover, DE. There are some fine people in both of those places. They have some cooky laws up there too, but that is besides the point. I realize this is Tennessee Gun Owners and not GOA, but that doesn't mean we should be Anti anywhere else. Though there is a funny joke: "What's the difference between a yankee and a damn yankee?

A damn yankee won't go home."

That is only a joke. I know plenty of "yankees" that would be welcome in my home far before any Joe Redneck's, but that is a matter of personal preference.

If we can't all "play nice" Tungsten will not keep this board around for us, and then where would we all be?

I would like to apologize for the hostile nature of my last post. There were outside pressures that contributed to some of the comments I made, namely the amount of sleep I had, and the poor quality of the past few days.

After getting some rest I realized that I had in fact contributed to the pettiness and hostility that I hate to see on these forums. This used to be a peaceful place where rational debate could take place, but as of late the quality of conversations is starting to decline. I'm using this opportunity to take the higher road and remove myself from further posting in this thread.

If anyone has a problem with me or where I'm from so be it, you can say what you want about me here but I will no longer dignify it with a response.

Okay folks... heated debate is encouraged. It'd be awfully boring if we all agreed about everything (ya'll know I do my part :) ).

Let's try to be civil... Hating and bashing other businesses and one-another isn't necessary, we've all had our moments, but its time to let this one go.

Product reviews and ratings for establishments can be inputted here: http://www.tngunowners.com/reviews/showcat.php?cat=15

Not everything is always convenient, and I agree that FGS has lost some of its 'personal touch' over the last few years... probably the victim of their own success.

Everyone please direct your frustrations in a civil manner, or this thread will be closed.

molonlabeTN is a voice of reason

I have gone to a gun shop here in the Knox area on a Saturday only to find their hours plainly posted. Of course they were closed on Saturdays and Sundays. Did I get mad? You bet, mad at myself for not paying any attention to their posted hours the other 25 times I had been there during the week.

I do not understand why a retail place would be closed on a Saturday but it is for the shop owner to decide and I am fine with that.

I have no problem with places being closed on a Sunday. Some of you old farts (like me) may remember when businesses being closed on Sunday was the norm. Times were simpler then and IMHO the world was a better place for it.

I too, would like to look at this post "in the light of day", so to speak, and apoplogize for the tone of my response. Just as the original two posters were venting at a member of my business community, and even though I don't know the owners of FGS from Adam, the gun business is a pretty tightly-knit group. Sure, we'd cut each other's throats for a nickel, but nobody else is allowed to speak ill of us. I was venting at the venting, so to speak.

My bottom line is, sure we disagree here, we're people, and that's what people do. But we're also gun people, which are some of the best people out there. I still stand by the arguments that I made, but I should have slept on it and made them in a more pleasant way. Sorry.

I was going to say, this thread was about as heated as girl scout cookie sale from what I was reading. I was getting a little scared about all the apologies and "lets just all get along" posts when I hadn't seen anything harsh.

If you haven't been in group discussion or some of the more "vocal" variant topics (try 6.8 vs 6.5 threads) over on ARFCOM, you won't know what I mean by this being tame.

I have been to Franklin Gun shop, nice place, great inventory, nice folks. All I have ever bought there was ammo. I did have to sit in their parking lot for a half hour waiting for them to open but I just showed up, no reasearch and had forgotten their times. Thats on me. I also love Guns and Leather in Greenbrier, another great selection. I say we try and keep as many gun shops open as we can. Its nice to "hold" one before you buy it. Would have saved me 200 bucks as I bought a Para subcompact Light Hawg and couldn't stand the thing after it arrived. I lost 200 in the trade to get a Kimber.

Continuing on now.

No trouble with Franklin Gun Shop for me. It is only a petty nuisance that their off days are the same as mine. (It just means I have to visit before or after work when it's open.)

and much like scuba shops, there's always some macho bunghole that comes in and knows everything about everything...that tends to get on thier nerves

Yep, like an over zellous OW trainee that wants to do his certs on a 130' deep wreck.

Yep..and you can bet that before long he'll either be visiting a hyperbaric chamber, dead, or if he doesn't have the guts to actually DO the things he just talks about, he'll make up stories rife with inaccuracies ...and then he's just annoying.

:D

I would imagine the only business where more BS is thrown out than a gun shop is a dive shop.

When I was getting PADI OW certified a million years ago, I had 2 "former Navy SEALS" that barely passed.... :D

Of course, their excuse was they were so used to closed curcuit rigs, and that they missed their Dragers...

Maybe, but the dive tables are based off the Navy tables and open circuit is covered and used in their training. I find it hard to believe that they can master a CCR with the manual calculations and not be able to read a table. Unless they just watched their PO2 level and kept it below 1.6.

I went there last saturday with cash in hand ready to walk out with a new toy but they were closed. I really have nothing bad to say about the shop, I have bought my last 3 guns from there and have been really happy with the service.

You missed the point; they werent SEALS, just like most "..used to be an Army/Marine sniper..." guys that come in were really truck drivers and clerks.
