Getting old sucks.....

Been laid up for 5 days now....hyper extended a knee. Swelled up like crazy, hurt like a SOB and on crutches. And no I didn't go to a doctor. I didn't want to catch some chinese crap or other disease in a doctor's office.

On the plus side it is getting better....slowly. Pain is down to practically nothing, swelling is going down, slowly. Crutch helps cause I still can't walk on it comfortably.

Getting old stinks.....takes forever to get better. Going crazy sitting around. I haven't been out in the shop for 5 days now. I don't watch TV...most everything is ####.

On the plus side I get waited on and there is no expectation of doing chores around the house. Sooner rather than later this "plus" will have to give way cause not moving around freely is quickly losing it's appeal.

How about being almost locked in, (way before covid lockdown), since Dec 10th? 7 trips to emergency room, (7th time on Christmas Day), finally leading to open surgery and 22 staples holding my gut in? Then finally getting better, then they say I cannot go out and do stuff because of the Covid nonsense? They say keep occupied then get mad when you want to go to Lowes to find things to do at home? Top that off with arthritis in the first 3 knuckles of both hands. Tendinitis and chronic CTS also in both hands. Opps, speaking of arthritis, my neck always hurts and sounds like a socket wrench when I turn it. Got a bad left rotator cuff due to weight lifting years ago. Hard to lift left arm past a certain point. Screws holding foot on hurt and I can tell weather better than the idiots on tv, (lost 13% of dorsal flexion because of those nasty screws)... Knee surgery that was only a temporary fix till I got older?

Doctors want to replace my knees, hips and in order to relieve pain in my hands, do knuckle replacement surgery.
Yes, I want to be like the Terminator or Wolverine, not possible so it ain't happening till I collapse permanently. All this and more....

So does getting old suck? Big time... but I'd rather have your knee problem than everything listed above that screws me over each every day of my life.
BTW, get that knee fixed right. I ripped all my tendons in my right knee in a fight and the doctor said it will heal normally and just use a brace. It did not!
As a result, my right leg cannot lay flat on the floor which cause my right leg to act shorter. That will cause you to limp unless you put a elevator platform in your shoe.

This is not a complaint to try to upstage your injury. It's just making a point. I'm sure there are many more out there worse off than me, (especially our vets)....

It's funny how this came up. Just the other day, we saw a puppy that had no right hind leg not knowing or caring it didn't. Running around playing with the big guys. When I was a boy and had a paper route back in the early '70s, there was this one fox terrier type dog that loved chasing wheels. One day a car snapped his rear leg. Owners were assholes to say the least. Yet, the dog still chased cars with the leg dangling and him running full speed.

Other than a healing time and even during, you ever notice animals will most of the time not stop their routines? They may whimper or even be at 50% health but they move on full steam. We as humans, are the only, imho, biggest pussy arse whiners on the planet. Whether a cold, flue or belly aches, we'd moan and groan. While we whine, mother nature just continues. We need to take lessons from Gods non-human creatures.

I always heard the old guys saying getting old is not for sissies. I have now found; that is true.

My father and uncle put like this, "Growing old ain't for the faint at heart!" It's certainly true.

If it swelled up that bad I certainly recommend that you see a specialist because that indicates that something tore. The last thing you want is excessive scare tissue forming costing you mobility and constant pain.

Getting old sucks

Tell me about it.

today is my birthday, I'm 73. The only thing keeping my here is, every morning I get up and check the grass. If it's green on my side, that's a plus for the day.

I relented this morning and went to the doc....well I should say the wife relented. Got the full exam, saw the ortho doc as well. Slight tear it seems so follow prescribed treatment/rest and we will take it from there. At this time surgery seems like it's not required. Got some drugs and the wife gets to do my chores as well as hers for a while.

I've had my share of plates/pins in bones...shoulder, wrist...heart attack and quad bypass, onset of arthritis and other stuff. I've become spoiled, especially over the last ten years in that I've been able to still do what I need and want to do from cutting trees, trimming bushes, cutting and trimming grass, carpentry, knife making, shooting and whatever else. I never wanted to imply there isn't a ton of folks that have it worse than me. I was just whining and complaining that I couldn't get out to my shop is all. :P I'm not much of a sitter...never have been. Thankfully there is plenty of stuff to watch on you tube "how to stuff mostly".

Happy Birthday....I'm nearly 71 so not far behind you. Nothing like waking up to the sunshine and birds singing.

Glad you got it checked out and the prognosis sounds good without surgery etc. I learned my lesson about pushing on a bum knee.

Good news. Knee surgery sucks (says the man with 2 replacements).

Same here. Left in Fall of '18 and Right in Fall of '19. Total replacements on both. Still have big-time swelling in right leg.

Degenerative disc disease in lumbar spine as well as arthritis in back and now hands.

And just to make things interesting...tendonitis in right elbow.

So I hit 68 this year and all the physical restrictions have kicked in. Not a happy camper.

My point is....the "Golden Years" ain't having much gold for most of us.

But for you GT and you E4  I offer prayers for recovery. For the rest of us...suck it up.

Isn't half the battle mentally being willing and able, thinking you can?

I'm 52 this month and will view certain tasks, "yeah, I could, but should I?

I suspect the other half of the battle is proper gear, technic and good insurance.

Regardless, injuries suck - prayers for a rapid recovery!

52, shoot I can barely remember 52, but it was better than almost 68. I am still trying to figure out how my daughter got to be 49 this February. Forrest Gump had it right, life is like a box of chocolates that somebody has already eaten  the good ones!!

Yep, getting older ain't great but, if you try and at least eat right sometimes and try and live right, its a little better. My health is still good, I'm 53, and  not on any medications yet.
