This happened in May 5, 2019, but the footage was released today.

On May 5, 2019, the plane was en route su1492 from Moscow to Murmansk. 27 minutes after take-off he was forced to return to Sheremetyevo airport due to technical problems on board. During the landing, the airliner suffered damage that caused a fire, which caused the plane to partially burn down.

As a result, 41 people out of 78 aboard were killed.

A very unfortunate case of get-there-itis.

I've been stuck by lightning about 10 times in flight. Thank God I've never had anything more than a couple holes put in the airplane. One time when I was hit, it sounded like a 12 gauge was shot about 10 feet away. You could feel the heat through 3 inches of glass.

That is hands down my worst nightmare. Being in flight on fire.

I thought the fire was from a botched landing, not the lightning?

It was. The plane was struck by lightning shortly after takeoff. The strike fried some of the electrical systems that make flying easier, but the plane was flyable. The pilot tried to land in high winds, while too heavy*, with reduced flight control. It hit the runway so hard it broke the landing gear and punctured the fuel tanks, which caused the fire.

* Yes, you can take off in an airplane that's too heavy to land. Fuel can be up to 50% of the total weight.

Looks like some people took the time to grab their carry-on belongings while people in the back of the plane were starting to cook. That surely held up the line inside and it definitely made them slower coming out the door because their hands were full.

These would be the first to be pushed back into their seat and wait!!!

Remind me to not get on a plane with you.  :)
