Handgun purchase denied

So I went to the gun shop about 3 weeks ago to purchase another handgun. I had just bought 2 at the same location about 2 weeks previous and for some reason my TICS came back denied. So I am not a felon or any of the other things that would keep a person from owning/buying a firearm. I haven't even had a speeding ticket in years. I have the enhanced carry permit. I've had my permit since 2011..just renewed it in January with no problems. The employee said it happens from time to time and for me to fill out an appeal paper. After stewing on it all night and worrying myself to death, I went back the next day and asked to see my 4473 to make sure I didn't check something like I'm an illegal alien or renounced my citizenship or something and it was fine and filled out correctly. The worker there said none of that info is entered in anyway that they go off of your name and driver license number. Anyways I have called the store several times and they say that they have not heard anything on the appeal. The last time I called they said they had not heard back on any of them and when they got the email from tics, they would let me know. Since they said no word on ANY of them, I assume this has happened to others not just myself. It's been over 3 weeks now and I still haven't heard anything. Could the delay be from all this virus stuff? Is there a number a person could call to see what the hold up is or find out of there is a real problem? Is something like this common? Should I wait longer or assume I'm lost in the system. How long should I wait to try again.  I've never had this happen before and it's really aggravating. Any one have any ideas or this one?

Morning. If you do a quick search on TGO you will see you're not alone in this. It happens from time to time for no reason and the usual outcome is your appeal goes through and you get the gun. I know of 2 that have bought from Bud's store and both were initially denied only to have their appeal approved weeks later. 1 had never purchased a handgun through the system and the other has more than a dozen in their name. Both had clean records. Best advice is to not take it personally and remain calm. Seems more often that not to work out if your record is clean.

A big reason why I love private sales. Big brother can't stick their nose in your business and I don't have to pay $10.00 for their permission to buy either.

This happens occasionally. Probably not a lot based on the number of checks they do, but we have seen it here many times and there are many threads about it.

Coronavirus doesn’t have anything to do with it. Other than maybe slowing down results if a lot of purchases are being made (although I don’t see how that’s possible if the claims the gun stores are cleaned out are true).

An appeal usually takes less than a week. A background check and an appeal are only good for 30 days. Once you hit 30 days you will have to start the process over.

You can try to call the TBI, but this is on their website:

Q: I sent TBI an appeal form recently, but haven't heard anything back. How can I check on the status of my appeal?

A: You can check on the status of your appeal by contacting the Federal Firearms Dealer that ran your transaction.
