.38 NYCLAD

I have notice numerous recommendations on other forums for newbies to use Federal NyClad in their snubbies. In fact it seems every thread about carry ammo comes up with several NyClad recommendations. First off, yes it is great ammo, until about a decade ago I always carried Federal Nyclad (Blue) in all of my snubbies. The problem is: it isn't available! Federal NyClad is is sold to LEO and LEAs only! Most newbies are civilians with HCPs and they cannot legally buy the ammo. If they would get involved in a shooting the opposite attorney would jump on the chance to show they were carrying illegally acquired ammo, you know hardcore criminal assassin types with illegal ammo.

I would love to carry NyClad in my S&Ws , I still think it might be the best snubbie ammo ever made, but I am not about to break the law to buy it. I really think we need to leave it out of the list of possible carry ammos for civilians today, If it ever comes available to general public again I would probably jump on it, but I have since learned to trust Hornady XTP for a standard pressure load ( and there are many more, besides NyClad, standard pressure loads out there.)

Nyclad is perfectly legal for anyone to own.

+1 I don't think I was ever restricted by Federal as LEO.

Nyclad performance is over-rated by today's standards anyway and is a shallow penetrator.

For .38Spec +P...I'd use Speer's 135gr+P Gold Dot.

For .38Spec non +P...I'd use Hornady's 158gr XTP.

Thanks 323.

Yes, Nyclad is perfectly legal, just out of production for a couple decades or so. Please, before passing around more of the "illegal ammo" nonsense  please verify facts. Even if you heard it at a gunstore, it may not be true.
