Well deserved after a long, long wait! Looks great, Mav. Had the opportunity to shoot her yet?

I don't own a 1911 and have no real 'need' of one. I don't know that I would ever be comfortable carrying cocked and locked (just a personal thing), I am not convinced it is the 'be all and end all' of handgun platforms (a gun has to have a cylinder to even be in the running for that, in my book) and I really don't want to add .45ACP as yet another caliber to stock.

That said...

There are pictures of some great looking pistols in this thread. When I see pics of other folks' 1911s, it makes me kind of want one just so I could change out the grips, customize it and so on. To be truthful, I am almost convinced that 1911s don't play the role of 'guns' so much as they are dress up dolls for gun owners. Hmmm...maybe if/when I get one I'll name it "Barbie".

I've had this since the Summer just put the new grips on it to change the look abit.

I've been very happy with it so far. Best Bang for the Buck IMO.

I don't like to think of my 1911 as a Dress-Up doll.

More like a GI Joe with interchangeable combat accessories!

Sorry for the crappy Cell Phone picture. I'd buy a better camera - but I spent all my money on Ammo.

I know this is an old topic, and I hate to show you all my old 1911 after looking at all of these really SWEET pistols. But here goes.

This is my first .45, and I built it. It's an Essex Arms frame with an old military-ish slide. The frame was plum and the slide was OD green. As you can see the finish is long worn off. I have no fear of the Dremel as you can see. 10,000 rounds plus through it in competitions. I know the round count because I put a Colt National Match barrel in it and I reloaded 1000 rounds at a time. I stopped counting the rounds on the barrrel after 10 grand. I'd say closer to 12K through it. This gun has had nothing but 230 LRN bullets in it, loaded to 768 fps. I run a 13 pound mainspring with this Winchester Super Target load. The gun will still shoot 2.5 inches at 50 yards.

I lowered the ejection port, flared the ejection port. I serrated the slide. I learned as I went. I thinned the panels, and relieved the beaver tail. I've done a half dozen trigger jobs on it, I got pretty danged good at it. As a result I put 3 or 4 hammer and sear set's in it. Untold number of springs.Oh yeah, skate board tape on the front strap... Notice the notch on the well worn mag well. It's a visual indicator for reloading.

Oh yeah check out the relieving of the beavertail. This an EXCELLENT way to get higher on the gun to lessen recoil.

Ain't she beautiful!!!
