Moving to TN and have some questions

Recommended Posts

Posted

Hello everyone,

First off let me thank you for taking the time to read this.  I have a few guns and I'm wondering what has to be done when I move there.

1) are they legal in the state?

AR pistol, various handguns and shotguns, and one bolt action rifle

2) do I have to register them when I move there and if so how much time do I have to do that?

Thanks,

D

I don’t have nearly the knowledge base of some of the members here, but the firearms you listed are all legal to own in TN.

TN does not have a firearm registration requirement. As long as you legally own the firearms, there should not be any issue moving to TN with them.

Fellow TGO members, please correct me if I am wrong.

Yes and no in that order.

If the guns are legal federally, they are legal here and the government of TN doesn’t have any interest in what guns you own.

Welcome and have fun!

thanks for the quick reply.  I'm originally from CA so I'm used to absurd laws, just wanted to make sure before making my way across state lines.

Right up the road from Martin. Going to a gun auction there Sat. { check out Marvin's auction at Alexander Auction and Real Estate, Martin.TN.} When are you making the move? Welcome and keep us informed when you get here.

I'll be making the drive in an hour or so.  Just getting some food and coffee in me and then packing up the car.

Welcome to West TN. All we ask is that you understand that we like the way things are around here. If you ever utter the words “we didn’t do it like that back in _______,” it should be immediately followed by a statement to the effect that it’s better here. With that out of the way;

Welcome to our home!

Welcome to Tennessee. We moved down last year from wonderful New York State. All I can say is when I open my eyes in the morning the first thing I do is smile. You will love it here. We sure do!!

Also where are some good ranges? I’m really into skeet, but I also need somewhere to shoot my pistols and rifles!

I will say so far everyone down here is extremely polite and friendly! Quite the culture shock since I'm used to all the ******** from CA haha
