Will I get a ticket?

Indeed. Is the goal to make travel safer, or generate revenue?

Both. Traffic enforcement needs to have consequences, or it won’t work. Telling people if they speed, they will get stopped and get an azz chewing doesn’t make them slow down. Giving them a $150 ticket, might slow some down.

The city, county, and state all have their budgets. As a property owner, my opinion is that if part of that can be paid by those that can’t obey traffic laws, instead of raising my property taxes; I’m all for it. But that’s just me; I know that’s not a popular opinion.

Having worked traffic I also know to well that if more people are hurt and injured in your neighborhoods by “real criminals” instead of “traffic offenders”; you should probably think about moving.

I have also seen posted on the internet many times, that you can throw those camera tickets away. I’d need my attorney to tell me that before I did it. The money that leaves our cities because of the ridiculous fees those camera companies get, should be enough to stop the practice.

The problem with traffic cameras is, who ever the car is registered to, gets the ticket in the mail. My step daughter borrowed my jeep  and one day a citation appeared in the mail with my name on it. Knew it could not have been me or my wife driving the jeep so good luck with trying to extort money from me. So the only ticket you should have to pay is the one that is handed to you from the officer that wrote it. Pretty sure that is called due process. Personally would like to see $1,000.00 fine for cell phone use while driving, the kind held up to your ear by hand.

The city I worked in allowed you to have the person you borrowed the car to come to the next scheduled court date.  If they failed to show you got another notice and you, the RO, had to come back to court.

I've never seen one of the tickets, but when “who was driving?” was questioned, I’ve seen people post that they were sent a picture clearly showing who was driving the car, and I think they said there was online video if they wanted to see it. I don’t know that I’ve ever heard of anyone taking one of these tickets to court; or if you can. We don’t have unmanned radar, but we have red light cameras. Most people I hear talking about them simply said they weren’t paying them, or they were.

Here is a link to the system Murfreesboro uses. It appears its all automated, so doubtful there is any court involved.

I agree. If you're not paying enough attention to see that police car sitting in plain sight, you deserve to pay the stupid tax. What I have issue with is when they hide or use unmarked cars for traffic enforcement.  That's doing nothing to improve traffic safety, that's pure revenue generation.

I guess I’m a little different, I set my cruise for 5 to 7 over and ride.  I’ve passed state troopers like that and never got a ticket. I get a kick outta the guys who will fall in behind a cop and refuse to pass him no matter what speed he’s doing. As long as I’m not going more than 10 over on the interstate I’ll pass him just like it’s just another car. Drives my brother crazy, he won’t pass them under any circumstances.

and I also won’t flash oncoming traffic to warn them there’s a cop doing radar, too many bad guys been caught on simple traffic stops.

I don't know, I haven't heard anything like that.

I know Andy Holt is still trying to get legislation to outlaw them throughout the state.

Kinda funny story, back in the day, the unit i was in only had one old handheld radar gun, and it was often down for maintenance.  We also used those old Motorola 'brick' radios in a leather case.  I always figured the intent of traffic enforcement was safety and getting speeders to slow down, so, when the radar was down, i used to aim my radio at cars and tehys slow the heck down when they saw me doing that, lol.

I’ve seen a Dodge Charger and a hair dryer have the same effect. 😆

Price of a real radar gun: Ridiculous

Cost of training: Ridiculous

Watching the reactions on the faces of people as they drive into the field: Priceless
