Duplicate bills in the Tn. House/Senate

Why are there so many duplicate bills introduced into the Tn. House and senate?

for example, HR 0724, 0503, and 0521...other similar bills are 0960, and 0962.

Also, I read HR 1118 which removes the prohibitions listed in 39-17-1350 ©(1)(2)(3)(4).

I am against allowing anyone to carry firearms while consuming alcohol, or to carry in court rooms while judicial proceedings are going on which are listed under 39-17-1350©(2)(3)....that said, I would like to see HR 0724, 0503, 0521, 0766, 0962 and 0960 all pass. If I read these bills right, and they pass, we would be able to carry on college campuses, into restaurants that serve alcohol as long as we don't consume, and in all local, municipal and state parks.

I cannot support legislation that allows anyone--Law enforcement or not, to carry firearms while consuming alcohol--which is what HR 1118 would seem to do. And this is why I am strictly against this particular bill.

what do you all think?

Well, HR1118 says that it will lift certain restrictions, but doesn't specify what they are. No bill summary is available yet. Personally, I don't see them lifting the alcohol restriction in c(2).

AN ACT to amend Tennessee Code Annotated, Section

39-17-1350, relative to law enforcement officers.

BE IT ENACTED BY THE GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF TENNESSEE:

SECTION 1. Tennessee Code Annotated, Section 39-17-1350(a), is amended by

deleting the language "subsection ©,".

SECTION 2. Tennessee Code Annotated, Section 39-17-1350©, is amended by

deleting such subsection in its entirety.

SECTION 3. Tennessee Code Annotated, Section 39-17-1350(e), is amended by

deleting such subsection in its entirety.

SECTION 4. This act shall take effect upon becoming a law, the public welfare requiring

this bill seeks to totally eliminate subsection © in its entirety including (1)(2)(3) and (4). ©(2)(3) are regarding carry of weapons while consuming alcohol, and carrying into court rooms while judicial proceedings are going on--unless I am reading this bill wrong.

H.B 1118 is just a bad bill all around.

The bill removes ALL restrictions in 39-17-1350© But not sure it speically allows them to drink. 39-17-1321 would still apply to LEOs as well.

As far as there being so many duplicates...it happens every session. Either more than one legislator introduces a bill, or there may be slight differences in each one. If you watch over time some get withdrawn and others move on, usually the ones that those that sponsored simillar bills feels has the best chance of passing and/or is more in line with desired end result.

Interesting. I wonder why they would delete that alcohol section. Where did you guys get bill verbiage? Nothing shows up on the state website: http://wapp.capitol.tn.gov/apps/billinfo/BillSummaryArchive.aspx?BillNumber=HB1118&ga=106 .

I am not sure the other law would apply the same way. TCA 39-17-1321 deals with someone "under the influence," while TCA39-17-1350©(2) says "consuming."

Yeah, kind of a bad bill concerning the alcohol provision in c(2).

Use this link http://wapp.capitol.tn.gov/apps/BillInfo/Default.aspx?BillNumber=HB1118 then can click on HB1118 or SB1394 to see the text of the bill.

No, 39-17-1321 may not apply exactly the same way, at least IMO. I am like you and note the difference in wording. But stop to think 39-17-1321 is what has allways applied to HCP holders and others. So if you get right down to it, LEOs are more restricted than us. Although it seems most on here feel 39-17-1321 could mean you can't even take a sip...but anyway.

I really don't care if this passes. It's not like a LEO from the same deparment or area would have charged a fellow LEO with any of the violation of any of the restrictions in 39-17-1350© anyway.

Anyone what to place a bet on restaurant carry and Park carry not passing this year again?

You forgot there is a bill that allows post secondary carry....I hope the parks, restaurant and post secondary bills all pass. I would also like to see the database of gun owners made private and not subject to the open records law...I'm all for open and transparent government, but I most certainly am not for letting anyone know where I am or what I am doing--because it is not the business of anyone whether or not I do or do not have a permit, or whether I do or do not own a gun...that is my business only.

Republicans have the majority, so why would they not pass? Or is it that they consider that we alone as responsible citizens are unworthy to be trusted in such places with our own safety? I despise politics in general.

What is it about guns that simply terrifies people to no end--it is a totally and completely irrational fear--respect them, treat them as if they are loaded--people just need to grow up.

Well, first Repubs don't have the majority now. It's an even split and Kent Williams falling in between.

Second, Freud said the fear of weapons is a sign of sexual and emotional retardation. You think a bunch of open and free liberals would hate to be seen as "sexually retarded" :tinfoil:
