Has anyone carried in the Smokey Mountains or another National Park since the new rule went into effect. I would like to go to the Smokies and get my picture made next to the Park sign with my gun showing before the rule gets changed back.

where did you get that from? I was understanding that the rule followed the carry rules in whichever state you were in while visiting the park.

The new regulation specifically says "concealed."

Title 36 Chpt. 1 Part 2 § 2.4 Weapons traps and nets.

(h) Notwithstanding any other provision in this Chapter, a person may possess, carry, and transport concealed, loaded, and operable firearms within a national park area in accordance with the laws of the state in which the national park area, or that portion there of, is located, except as otherwise prohibited by applicable federal law.

Only as far as if the state allows carry and recognizes your out of state permit. But as others have posted the new rule specifically says CONCEALED.

I am glad this was covered one more time them. I would hate to get busted by being seen with a casually concealed weapon.

If you are in Tennessee, it will still be illegal, wouldn't it? It is illegal by Tennessee law to carry in a park run by local or state government; by extension, since the federal rule says it must be legal by state laws, I don't think it is legal even with the rule change.

No, that is incorrect.

As was discussed in many other threads, the first proposed rule change did have wording about following state law about state parks. But the final rule change that was approved removed that wording.

The final rule change does allow states to pass laws against carry in National Parks, but if you can carry in a state, in general, you can carry in a National Park in that state regardless of whether you can carry in state or local parks in that state.
