So the first time I looked for my name it wasn't there... now it is.

That would suggest they are actively buying new lists and updating the database on a schedule. Or that they recently bought a current list.

They're constantly changing it. Whether they're just updating it or keeping other people's names out of it doesn't matter. It means that the reliability of their data can be questioned, and from that, their motives. They can be attacked for getting it wrong the first time and having to fix their mistakes. They can be accused of being incompetant and trying to cover it up until people called them on it. They can be smeared for not removing unspecified inaccuracies within a reasonable timeframe. Every shred of moral high ground that they try to claim has to be torn from under them, and the millstone of Publicity Stunt must be continually hung around their neck.

Repeat it enough and it'll stick.

You can always do like I did and gift Mr. Peck a year's subscription to Guns N Ammo, Shooting Times, or Gun Digest through Amazon.com. I'm sure he will enjoy multiple copies of these magazines every month :D

Well Lo Dobbs had this on his show tonight. Also blasted the AG holder again. Seems Mr. Dobbs is intending to bring the Second amendment into the lime light every chance he gets. This may have some thing to do with H Reid and N Polosi's comments about the assault weapons band.

:tough:! I heard this on XM on the road and it was the first thing I checked when I got home. Sure enough, I'm in the database. It's always good to hear Dobbs go off about Second Amendment rights though. Wish there were more like him on CNN.

I hope this rag dies a quick death like all the other useless rags. Good luck staying relevant "commercial appeal."

THIS SUX! Im gonna call em and ask why im not listed!! I want my 15 minutes!!

Whoa, whoa.

First, someone else who knows you have a CCW should search you in the database.

Then they and I can publicly examine the facts. Maybe you paid off the Commercial Appeal to not be listed. Maybe you have connections with the editors. Wouldn't that be something, if the CA were keeping their buddies off the list? I think that should be explored, publicly. Surely there's someone who has a CCW, isn't listed, and wouldn't mind taking just a little bit of public flak for the greater good.

We should look into that.

Hi! This is my first time posting, but I've been lurking here for a while. dwrd sent me this thread, and I've been following your efforts and letting people know about what's going on in TN.

Savvysteve's post caught my eye, and I thought I'd de-lurk. I was a legislative intern at the General Assembly a few years ago, and I can answer basic questions about the legislature...

"Assigned to s/c Criminal Practice and Procedure of JUD" means that the bill was assigned to the Criminal Practice and Procedure Subcommittee of the Judiciary Committee in the House. The TN House Committees have subcommittees. Once the bill gets out of the Sub, it should go to the Judiciary Committee. If it passes the committee, it will go to the House floor for a vote.

"P2C, ref. to S. Jud Comm" I think that P2C means that the bill has passed second consideration, which, as far as I can remember, is just a procedural measure. "Ref. to S. Jud Comm" means that the bill has been referred to the Senate Judiciary Committee. The Senate doesn't have subcommittees like the House does, so the bill only has to go through one committee to make it to the Senate.

When the bill has been placed on the calendar for a committee, it will say "Placed on calendar of (whatever committee)" and give the date that it will be discussed. If this is a bill that originated in the House, it's possible that Senator Ketron won't try to get it through the Senate committee until starts moving through the House.

I hope that was helpful... :-\ I really hope this bill passes.

Edit: The Arkansas House passed a bill 98-1 that exempts the concealed carry permit list from Arkansas's Freedom of Information Act: http://blogs.knoxnews.com/knx/silence/archives/2009/03/see_i_told_you_1.shtml

Sorry for taking a bit of leave. Wisdom teeth wouldn't wait any longer.

I sent Mr. Fleming of WREC an email about carrypermitprivacy and maybe he'll give some mention later on.

Does anyone have a good list of contact numbers and emails for advertisers with the CA? Preferably unlisted and hard to find numbers that get to a real person faster? There's always more impact when you have angry people getting past your phone tree en masse.

All I have are email addresses, and fully 7/8ths of the emails I sent were ignored. The advertisers do not seem to care, especially since the 1/8th that did respond basically told me to pack sand (First Tennessee Bank, for those who care).

My buddy told me there was a website that showed the public who all has their permit. Thats about stupid to me. I think that should be private. What's your ideas?

They also have a database that list everyone with a felony offense from 1995 to 2009.

......It has been almost a year, just wanting everybodys thoughts these days!

Most of us would prefer it wasn't public.

There was a bill to make it private introduced last legislative session. It didn't pass.

So it's not like that's not going to change anytime soon, seems.

I think it should be brought up again. I'm sure the same result, but who knows. Worth a shot!
