Think about the physics involved with this. They not only have to deal with friction of the air but also with the track itself. I would love to see a slow-motion shot from the side and see how they structured the track to contain the device while keeping friction down.

All of the research going into the hypersonic vehicle testing program is cool. 

At the opposite end of the spectrum is this:

My favorite part of this video - is watching the engineers watch it in awe.  These guys work here everyday - and still are fascinated by the drop.

I'd love to have a high speed camera.

That's stinking cool to watch but mostly because of the fact that they can create an almost perfect vacuum in such a large space. 

EDIT: Also consider when that was built.
