Does anyone have one of these?

I'm looking for a good, bright, light that can take some abuse. I like the Surefire but they seem overpriced,

This LED model has 4 settings and is 200 lumens on the brightest setting. Any suggestions or opinions? I'm going to keep one in my car and another by the bed. Is 200 lumens bright enough to clearly see an intruder in the dark?

200 lumens is enough to give them a sunburn. If you are looking for a good cheap LED, look at the Coleman flashlights at Walmart. I bought one, I think its an 80 lumen, for under $20. I use it at work so it gets abused pretty good and battery life is great as well.

Cool. I haven't had the best of luck with Coleman's recent products but I'll take a look at it for sure.

Surefires really aren't that badly priced considering the abuse they'll take and that Surefire will pretty much replace it no mater what if it breaks.

To Surefire's credit, I ordered a 6PD way back when, and the endcap button broke. I emailed them, explained my problem, they asked for my address, and a week later, a new tailcap showed up on my doorstep, free of charge. You cannot beat service like that.

However, in shopping for a flashlight to go on my new home-defense shotgun, I came to the conclusion that paying another $120 for another 6PD was foolish, when I could mount that one on the shotgun, and pay $75 for a flashlight with 220 lumen output, three output levels, strobe flash, and SOS flash. For reference, I went with an OLight T20-M.

That said, I already have some complaints with the flashlight, despite having it for less than a week... they shipped it with a glow-in-the-dark rubber cap for the tailswitch, but no way of removing the current one, or installing the new one. Additionally, their customer support email addresses either do not work, or they direct you to Battery Junction for help.

All that aside, though, this thing is amazingly bright (200 lumens is more-or-less daylight caliber in my apartment), uses the same 123 lithium batteries as my Surefire, has as-good-if-not-better ergonomics, and seems to be made of an equally-strong build. All said, I think it was worth saving the $50.

(For reference, the reason I would need another 6PD on my shotgun is that Surefire does not seem to put push-activation tailcaps on anything lower down their line than the 6PD - even the standard 6P has a twisty tailcap (with momentary push-activation), which simply would not work for my shotgun, and I hate flashlights like that.)

In response to your question, though, Wolf-Eyes, Fenix, and one other company I cannot remember seem to be the favorites amongst the flashlightelists. Surefires are a close second for a lot of them, but their outputs are limited (unless you pay for a better light module), and their battery management is nonexistent in lower models. Olight is still new (they used to manufacture LEDs only), their quality is unknown, but they are bloody bright, and batteries hold up in them well.

I cannot recommend CandlepowerForums enough when you are shopping for a darksucker, though.

Just visited candlepower...wow...I never knew that flashlights were sooooo complicated or versatile. I need to brush up on my electronics terminology just to figure out what I read!! lol

Aye, lots of good info on CPF. SureFire may seem overpriced compared to some, but rest assured the service and quality is worth every penny. I've dealt with their customer service twice in about four years, and both times have been completely satisfied.

As for bright enough, the average 60 lumen Surefire light is plenty to temporarily light up or blind an aggressor. Don't count on more than a few seconds, though. Another note on a 'defense' light is that multi- mode lights may not be the best choice. In a high stress, time sensitive situation, you don;t want to have to click your way through 5 or 6 levels to get to 'high'. There's a certain value to the simple, single mode incandescent light. Push button, really bright light turns on. While not perfect for every day usage, the KISS principle comes to mind for any type of defense.

In the case of the Olight, it remembers what setting it was on when you turned it off last, and I simply always remember to turn it off on "high".

Speaking of the Olights, I just did a megahumongo write-up on my T-20M. Be advised, I ramble.

The short and sweet is that I will be keeping mine, with reservations. It was cheaper and arguably more capable than my Surefire, but there is something to be said for quality and customer support.
