Star 'Super Modelo' From Sarco

Hi, I'm thinking of buying one of the Star Super Modelo (A I think) from Sarco and I wondered if anyone had any experience with this pistol? It's chambered in 9mm Largo and I don't know how prevalent that ammo is in the U.S. or if there are easy conversions or other more common calibers that will fire in the pistol.

Most ammo is spanish Surplus, and is corrosive. You can find new brass though.

bump - Can anyone else give me some info on these guns? I found some info online that indicated they could shoot .38 ACP or 9mm steyr and was wondering if anyone had experience with this.

I have a Star Modelo super "B" that shoots 9mm luger ammo.. Very nice gun, but I'm contemplating selling mine. I hardly shoot it and need funds for other projects... A friend of mine got a star from sarco and it was ok for the price but I wouldn't have spent money on it. The slide and frame had differnt serial numbers and if these guns don't come with the matching slide and barrel they shoot horribly.

I have three Star Modelo A Supers purchased from Sarco about 4 years ago. Two were matching pistols one was a mix master. They fire 9mm Largo only, not 38 super or 9mm Luger. If you can find 9mm luger barrels they can be converted. The Star A is one of my favorite pistols and very accurate.

Ammunition is abundant if you know where to look and some is corrosive. I think a company called SILLC www.sillc.com is source that I use. You can also purchase brass from Starline. Remember, stick with 9mm Largo ammunition only.

I've heard rumors that Sarco was out of the Star Super and some of the examples were pretty rough. I'd give them a call first.

Have fun

Century Arms has 9mm largo non-corrosive right now for $149 per 1000, $12.95 shipping, or free if you buy $500 or more.
