I am by no means a stranger to building my own rifles. Ive got two SBR’s I built from the ground up, and two standard AR platform rifles as well. That being said I have never built an AR 10 and was actually completely unaware about the potential for tolerance differences, part compatibility, etc. So thanks for bringing that up Garufa! I learnt somethin today!

Since you ask, a suppressor used with a supersonic load can still muffle the sound of the detonation even though it doesn't work on the supersonic crack.

Exactly.

It can also add a bit of speed over the same load fired unsuppressed,

You need to add velocity to an unsuppressed .308 Winchester? Why not just switch calibers to a .300 WinMag

I mean no disrespect to you, but how would you explain that? Doing anything to a barrel could change the grouping, but that would be just by luck. How would hanging a suppressor on the end of a .308 barrel increase the accuracy of a quality .308 rifle?

A suppressor also works to make both the audible and visual signature of the shot more difficult to pin down.

That would be important...if that was a concern.

As far as the original observation, that someone who primarily intends to shoot 308 subsonic would be better served by 300 blk, I largely agree. When limiting to subsonic loads, the 300 blk case is more efficient and can be had in a smaller, lighter rifle while not giving up any energy to the 308 (again, when both are shot at the same speed).

Absolutely a 300 BLK is giving up energy compared to a .308. I’ve never seen anyone try to compare the energy and velocity of a .300blk to a .308 Winchester. Have You? I’m not saying the .300 blk isn’t a good round, it is; for its application.

If there is any way you could up you budget slightly, the Colt CM762 seems like a very solid option at a good price.
