Is it me or the gun?

I had my new XD(m) 9mm at On Target last night and shot about 100 flawless rounds through it. No malfunctions at all.

But the majority of my rounds hit about 2 inches left and 2-3 inches lower that my point of aim. I tried really concentrating on my breathing, trigger pull, grip, location of my finger on the trigger. Nothing changed significantly.

Could it be the sights or do you think I'm some component of how I am shooting the pistol?

I have never really had this problem before.

You might want to have someone else give it a try and see if it makes a difference. I have only shot on XD. A 45 and for me it shot high and left. I didn't have time to figure out if it was me or the pistol. But I usually am pretty accurate.

Did you shoot it from a rested position? That will help you determine how the gun is shooting. Also like Curios said, let someone else shoot the gun as well. If its consistent shooting off for them as well, then it might be the sights or something else. You may not be focusing on the front sight and following through after the shot as well or keeping your grip consistent through out the shot.

Yeah, let somebody else shoot it and make sure it's not the gun.

If it's you, (and you're right handed), typically low left groups are the result of too much grip strength in the strong hand which causes the handgun to torque to the left. It is an issue I personally have to monitor a lot.

Try removing your strong hand pinkie and ring fingers from your grip (supporting the gun with just your thumb and traffic finger) and see if that helps.

It's not a target. It's a tool to help identify the cause of missing the bullseye.

I've had the same problems and found that certain guns fit me differently and some lessen my short comings while others accentuate my bad habits. Ideally I should be able to handle any firearm the same but I just don't. I chalk this up to the different ergonomics of firearms today. On both my XD's I had to work a little harder to keep from shooting low left. After experimenting with other firearms I found out the grip was so narrow on the XD's I was using poor trigger finger placement and then was breaking my wrist while I jerked the trigger. As much as I liked the XD's I switched platforms and my shooting got much better. Not a knock on the XD as it is my quirks and not the guns. The M&P, Walther P99, and Glock 19 all handle better for me and my quirks.

There is alot of truth in that. I'm pretty well versed in shooting all different types of guns and am fairly accurate with anything I pick up. HOWEVER, certain guns fit me much better and I shoot alot better with them. 1911 is a ragged hole Glock or XD and we're talking enough to hit COM, but nothing to brag at the range about.

Srsly. I have the same problem, and a certain instructor at RangeUsa grabbed my XD once and preceded to put a hole in the middle of the target.....multiple times in the same hole.....and then said "it's you!"... If it was anybody else, it would have been super funny, but it was me so I didn't think it was that funny....ok, yes I did!! :D

lol....I dont doubt that it's me. I have the same problem when I play golf. I can slice it so bad that I can actually get negative yardage...yeah that much curve.
