Beretta O/U model differences

Recommended Posts

I'm looking to buy a 20ga. O/U. I'm liking the Beretta 687 Silver Pigeons, but have also noticed the 693 Field.

What are the differences between the 687 & 693?

I also really liked the Fausti Class, but am leaning towards Beretta for notoriety and resale. Thoughts?

I thought that Silver pigeons were field guns. Only a little fancier. I'll be inheriting one some day. I also like the Remington o/u's.

From their website the main difference I can gather is the redesign trimmed some weight off the 693.

I would take a 680 series gun over the newer 690 series any day of the week. 687 is the nicer finished 680 offered these days. They made some design changes on the 690s that seem to have had problems. They changed to a selectable ejector/extractor that is known to have problems. In the 12g they removed one receiver screws and there have been reports of 692 sporting guns breaking off at the tang. But I am a 68X fan boy :)

The SP designation really has to do with the finish level of the gun. Can be either field or comp gun.

One of my favorite places to browse - www.joeletchenguns.com

And of course - www.colegun.com

Thanks 1madass, after much much consideration, I'm going with a 687SP III.

Have three 686 shotguns (one 12, two 20's).  Great shotguns that I use for dove hunting.

I've always wanted a Silver Snipe in 20 gauge for bird hunting. I'm not sure what the model number is on it. A friend had one in the mid '60s that he let me shoot. I have wanted one ever since.

I saw one for sale on Gun Owners Club within the last couple of weeks.

Thanks KahrMan, but I really would like to locate one locally. I like to hold the gun in my hands before I lay down my hard earned cash. I have only bought one used gun sight unseen and it turned out ok... but don't want to push my luck.
