Stoeger STR-9

Just saw that Stoeger has a new polymer pistol out called STR-9 . Looks very interesting. The internals look very Glock-like. I am very interested. I had 2 of their Cougars when they came out around 11 years ago. Seems they have a MSRP of $329 so store prices could be well under $299. We are living in some great times with all these new guns coming out and prices being lower on some like this and the Mossberg , and others. I am very interested in this STR-9 . Just thought I'd share this. Seems pretty neat to me . I know some don't care for another polymer pistol but my older Stoeger Cougars were darn nice. They were built on the old Beretta Cougar machines. But if you look close at the frames on these new STR-9's , you can see some of the Beretta APX pistol resemblance.

This gun is the same thing as the Sarsilmaz SAR-9, a Turkish pistol that's been out about two years.  Stoeger is just putting their name on it.  The gun handles great, and seems accurate in offhand shooting.  But it has without doubt the worst trigger I've ever seen in a striker-fired pistol.  My brother bought two samples -- one stainless, one blue -- and both suffered from this problem.  The trigger on the stainless one locked in the rear position and wouldn't return forward, so that gun's been sent back to the manufacturer for repair.  The blued one hasn't done that yet, but I'm expecting it will.  There really isn't a good way to convey how bad the trigger is -- a long, rough pull with many hitches along the way until it finally breaks.  You'd have to feel it yourself to appreciate its wretchedness.  But if the trigger problems can be fixed, it's a gun with possibilities.

That's exactly why I'm waiting to handle it and examine it. I'll check out the SAR-9 and see what's up with it . Thanks for the information.

I got to handle the STR-9 today and take it apart. Everything was good except the trigger. The trigger was heavy and just plain weird. The best I can describe is a heavy cheaply made revolver trigger. Just bad. Most all of it was very Glock like , right down to the trigger bar and the "crusifx" part. The gun felt great in my hand and pointed very nice. Very sturdy looking. Some people have said and showed in videos about how the magazine doesn't drop free , but this one dropped free like normal. I guess for under $300 its good but that trigger is bothersome in my opinion and I am not a very picky person when it comes to triggers.

Hate dragging this to the top but I just checked one of these out at Academy . The trigger....well.......sucks. Not just a little but alot! Felt like almost7lb. I'd seriously take a look at the other Turkish delight, the Canik TP9SF One if you are looking for a low cost striker fired pistol. (they're going for under $300)

Terrible trigger. Gritty, heavy, horrible.  We always check triggers on new guns and that one takes the cake.

Is that supposed to be unusual?

No. But the obnoxious FIRES WITHOUT MAGAZINE on the side is.

I think they have that stamped on them and a "grab here" area too.

No, that's the Springfield "Grip Zone." 😂

I think the S&W M&P's still print "fires without magazine" on their guns too.

They do.
