Calibers named after Animals and Insects

Recommended Posts

Let's do a run to see what all ones we can name. Keep your GoogleFu in check for a moment. No fun to just look them up and Copy/Paste

I will start with one I just heard about:

.22 CHeetah

And one I already knew:

.22 Hornet

Pretty sure every insect name has been taken by some caliber, often .22 but off the top of my head:

.218 Bee

Remington Yellow Jackets (.22 LR, but still)

Google check on the Bee, lol.

. 220 Rook

I saw a rook rifle mentioned today. I had never heard of that kind of thing before, so I had a quick look into them. Turns out there are a whole bunch of "rook" calibers.

Lets' go BIG with the .585 Nyati

Nyati means cape buffalo in several African languages.

Could that translate to: 585 M'bogo?

With an honorable mention to

.22 Eargesplitten Loudenboomer

I read an article about the Eargesplitten Loudenboomer a while back. That thing had to be insane.

Off the top of my head, there's the .17 bumblebee, .240 cobra, .25-20 copperhead (I think...) .25 tomcat, I think 6mm (?) Swift. I know there's a Swift in there somewhere......
