west TN fishing

Well, I just got my hunting and fishing permit and haven't the slightest idea where to go fishing. My 6 y/o son fishes way more than me when we were back in N.O. Anybody in West TN know any good spots around Jackson/Memphis?

Also, anyone here a member of TN Sports Foundation? Seems like I need a sponsor to become a member.

I used to fish at Herb Parsons Lake. Right near fayette/shelby border. A little over fished though. Also some good places in northen missippi and arkansas.

Lake Graham in Jackson, over by the FOP is suppose to be good fishing. Also, the Hatchie River, and the Tennessee River(Pickwick Dam). Also, Whiteville Lake, over in Whiteville, TN. Thats near Fayette county!

Lake Graham sucks unless you want to fight stumps all day long and last time i went it was almost too low to fish. The lakes in Lexington are a good bit better, I fish more down in Hatchie or over in Pickwick area.

Is Herb Parson's still a lake? It looked more like a drying up pond this spring!

Reelfoot lake is worth the drive, they have places to stay, they have boats to rent, guides to hire (if needed) and plenty of crappie, bream, catfish and bass. If not fishing, there are a lot of other things to see year round.

From Jackson it is about an hour and a half. Hour to Dyersburg, then 30 minutes to Tiptonville. Eat at Boyettes.

My son and I tried both of the Hatchie TWR spots and wasn't impressed at all. The river wasn't active and the lake had so many trees close up on the bank, it was aggravating trying to cast into the few clear spots, I'm just going to try somewhere else next time.

ok, so i'm resurrecting a very old thread, I know :D

I'm looking for someplace near Memphis, within about an 1hrs drive to do some fishing.

I've been to Herb Parson's, with very little luck. I would prefer a lake that was not TWRA managed, but it's not a requirement.

Thanks in advance for any information my fellow anglers can provide.

Try Horseshoe Lake in Arkansas near Hughes or Lakeview just across the MS state line off Hwy 61. Both are less than an hour away (depending on what part of town you are coming from).
