Carrying in Alabama?

I have to travel to AL later this week for business. I would like to have my handgun in my car, but will not wear it on my person while there. I see that AL does not have a reciprocal agreement with TN, but it says that they 'recognize' a TN permit. What exactly does that mean? Can I take my gun in my car legally, or am I better off leaving it at home?

My understanding is that AL will recognize your permit as long as you follow AL permit law, there's just not a formal contract between the states stating this.

My dad lives in AL, and I plan on carrying when I go visit.

Here's a link

According to the booklet "TN Handgun Permit Travel Guide" by www.legallyarmed.com Al honors TN permits.

It states: Type of carry allowed: open or concealed (concealed suggested)

Restricted Areas:

1) It shall be unlawful for any person, other than LEO to have in his or her possession or on his or her person or in any vehicle any firearm while participating in or attending any demonstration being held at a public place.

2) Premises of a public school conmposed of grades K-12, or school bus used for grades K-12.

Have been in AL all week and have been carrying.

don't carry in a school or at a protest. those are the only 2 restrictions you have.

local sherriffs (who also issue the permits) can have additional rules for those with permits issued in their county (no carry at bars, etc) but you are not subject to those restrictions.

If you have an Alabama pistol license, you can carry in K-12 schools. Law enforcement and people with pistol licenses fall under the exemption of being allowed to carry. I am assuming that with the TN handgun permit having to follow the same type of laws as someone with an AL license, then you can carry in K-12 schools....you can definitely carry at AL colleges..although you may be asked to leave. You can carry pretty much anywhere honestly...it is pretty nice down there.
