A few quotes I've found helpful over time:

Most civilians don't get aggressive enough fast enough"  Paul Gomez  RIP my friend.

"We can ignore reality, but we can't ignore the consequences of ignoring reality" Ayn Rand... obviously not a gunfighter, but pertinent nonetheless.

"You have the rest of your life to solve your problems. How long you live depends on how well you do it" Clint Smith

"One bleeding-heart type asked me in a recent interview if I did not agree that 'violence begets violence.' I told him that it is my earnest endeavor to see that it does. I would like very much to ensure — and in some cases I have — that any man who offers violence to his fellow citizen begets a whole lot more in return than he can enjoy." Col. Jeff Cooper

Col.Cooper.

That and "Another Country" are 2 of my favorite books, read and re-read over the years. Thank you!

FWIW
"Another Country" title is a play on the L.P.Hartley quote "The past is a foreign country; they do things differently there."

Can I shoot is a question of ability.

Should I shoot is a question of morality.

Must I shoot is the question you need to ask yourself.

A strong body makes the mind strong. As to the species of exercise, I advise the gun. While this gives a moderate exercise to the body, it gives boldness, enterprise, and independence to the mind. Games played with the ball and others of that nature, are too violent for the body and stamp no character on the mind. Let your gun therefore be the constant companion of your walks. - Thomas Jefferson 1785 Aug. 19 Letter to Peter Carr
