Well Ruger has officially ceased production and removed from product listing the SR556 and SR762.   The Piston guns are no more.

I thought they were great guns, but the proprietary piston/handguard was a killer for them, I think.

Yeah us gun junkies like to customize our AR's!  Personally im not a piston fan if its not an AK...I much prefer the softer shooting of the DI...the biggest decider for me was when I started shooting my KS47 (palmettos franken AR that takes AK mags) even with its small 7" barrel it shoots way softer then any AK I have ever owned firing the mighty 7.62x39.

I never jumped into the piston AR parade because 1) the design is necessarily proprietary, 2) if I wanted something different, it was not going to be an AR, and 3) the potential performance increase just wasn't there.

Nothing against pistons per se, but in the AR it never lit my fire.

I had a Sig DMR that was a tack-driver.

That Sig would have still been a tack driver with DI.... fwiw.

Selling it is certainly a regret of mine. I wish I'd kept it.

I love how easy it is to clean up my SR762. Margic is right on the money, it does carry a more noticeable thump than a DI 308. The only Piston 308 I've run into that didnt act that way was a Galil.
