Mad Minute Suppressors

Well this is interesting.   A suppressor with what sounds like moving parts.   I'm very interested in seeing more from this as it becomes available.

Mad Minute claims they accomplish this with “active” technology that converts the explosive energy of a fired round into mechanical energy using a rotating turbine system. We’re told this system not only suppresses sound to sub-140 dB absolute, but also reduces flash, heat, blowback, recoil, and pressure.

During the week of SHOT Show 2019, Mad Minute demonstrated the functional capabilities of their suppressors using 5.56 and 7.62 belt-fed weapons systems. We’re told the Mad Minute machine gun suppressor was placed on an FN249 squad machine gun and throughout the week 11,000 rounds of belt-fed ammunition were fired through the weapon without ever reaching the point of barrel glow or changing out the barrel. They told us the cooling system technology of the Mad Minute suppressor actually extends the barrel life.

It looks a lot like the OSS suppersers.

I don't really see it.   It doesn't mount back over the barrel.   It has moving internals and I've never seen an OSS that looked like a heat sink.

Guess I was wrong.

I could be.   Like I said, I don’t see it.  But that doesn’t mean that it ain’t there.

My Thunder Beast Ultra 7 is in the 130s with no moving parts. This thing is ugly as can be and is only in the 140s.  Who cares how many thousands of rounds they did in an entire week at SHOT, how about a couple of belt dumps with a temp gun for an actually test that would show something.

Where did you get the numbers from?   The article says sub 140s which would mean below 140.   And perhaps having the quietest can wasn't the goal.

I misread that, thought the numbers said 140, missed the sub.   Still doesn't change my mind, moving parts to accomplish the same thing my can does.

I don't think the moving parts are to accomplish the sound reduction.  I think the moving parts are to do more than one thing.

There you go.   Sometimes, over-engineering, even if unnecessary leads to advancements that we couldn't have seen otherwise.

Plus, from the design and way that they wrote the article, I'm thinking that is designed more with an eye towards .mil applications with belt feds.   If it manages to mitigate heat, even back to the barrel, it keeps that gun in the fight longer.
