I just got a new Magnum! Pics!

Well, not a gun this time, but a fish! His name is Magnum and my wife got him for me yesterday! One of my other hobbies is aquariums, mainly saltwater reef tanks. However, due to the extraordinary costs of keeping a reef up properly, I sold off my tanks a few years ago. Down the road I'll get back into it again.

Anywho, here are the pics I promised!

They had a beautiful blue/purple female there and I almost picked her up too. I'm gettin' the itch again and I may breed them soon. I used to breed endler's liverbearers in college and I had brought out some beautiful strains with great color and extension of their tails. I'm such a freakin' geek. My dad was a biology teacher and I grew up on a freshwater canal in Miami, about 15 minutes from the ocean.

We had 3 large (55, 80, and 100 gal) tanks at home and Dad would show me how to build a different symbiotic ecosystem in each one, and we'd breed all kinds of different things. I'll always love the water and everything that lives in it.

We had a 75gal for a while. We had two tiger oscar cichlid watever??? They were two very meeeen some beeeeches! When we had to get rid of them, they were right at 1.5lbs each.

One day when the wife was gone, I threw a whole hot dog in the tank. *SPLASH, BUBBLES, GONE!* They were mean!, you could stick your finger in the tank and the little !!!!!!!'s would bite you, HARD! Latch on even!

Yeah tanks are cool, we give ours to my BIL, and settled with a more manageable 20gal.

Hey Musicman! When that itch gets to bad, I have a reef ready 72 bowfront under the garage. I don't have room for it and will probably go for a Nano tank of some sort. Make ya a deal on it...........

My brother and I had betas in high school. We tried to breed them... it's tough and the timing has to be perfect. Put the female in too soon and the male will just kill the female, leave the female in too long and the male will kill her. I guess a good way to put it is if they're not f*****g they are fighting.:D

Hey musicman...for a bit of entertainment put a small mirror in front of one of those guys. They get PISSED OFF in thinking the reflection is another beau picking a fight!!!!

That's how I got him to puff up for the picture. ;)

Did you know squirrels do the same thing with a mirror? The jump sky high when the rubber band holding the mirror to the post on the deck snaps and the mirror falls towards them, too! :tinfoil:

Man,this makes me miss my fish tank! :D

I had two HUGE frickin Oscars that were larger then my hand.I had to make two trips a week to Petsmart for 300 feeder fish(thats 600 frickin fish a week!)

I also had a Beta in there, that was forced to pretty much stay in the castle, and log all live long day to keep from getten eaten :tinfoil:

Also inhabiting the tank was a one eyed Koi fish, that was just awesome looking. He was like a little pirate fish.....I just wish I could have found an eye patch for him.

(pics are when I got them.wish I had full grown pics to show)

Those Oscars were the coolest though! They were like little dogs. They would watch me,as I watched them, and even jump out of the water to fetch a feeder held by its tail!
