I just came here to post that, lol.

Well, thanks TN.  Your jacking around is going to cause me to have to get a new DL even though it was just renewed 1.5 years ago.

Same here. If I read it correctly, no new proof of id, as in birth certificate required?

Just join in the cattle call and get a new Dl with the fancy Gold Star? And of course pony up for a new DL before the old cycle says you have to.

I don't think that is correct....

My wife and I are in the group that just renewed also. I don't understand why if the proof needed is the same as was needed to get a license why the new ones are not just automatically issued.

As long as you have another form of approved ID your fine.  So you can always travel with your passport and in my case my Green Card covers it.  In my case its less of a pain because of the Green Card, but for you folks that have never traveled within the US on a passport I can see that as being a kick in the nads!

You had to supply all this information to get a driver’s license?

Yep. I had my Passport and my wife had hers but it had expired a week or so before we went in and they would no accept it. She had to go back the next day with her birth certificate. We couldn't understand why they would not take a just expired Passport since she had went through the checks to get it in the first place. I don't know if they issue a different license if you are not a citizen but are legally in the country.

Expired is expired, doesn't matter when. The DMV employee has to make a copy of the documentation. If any of it is invalid and found in an audit, the employee gets in trouble.
