I have to admit I am trying to see it your way Astra and I am just not feeling it.

All of us started somewhere. I am trying to remember if I knew how to load a pistol the first time I bought one. Can't remember. I am sure I asked the sales clerk.

It is not the clerks job to tell a guy to go get training. The clerk works for the retailer, sell the gun is his part of the equation. 2A gives the couple the right to purchase a handgun. Basically even the dumbest knucklehead in the US should be allowed to own a handgun training or not. One hopes they take the time to ask questions. Even if the question is where the bullet goes. Its a start.

I still think you could have been a big help by volunteering some information.

Did they buy the gun?

I don't know if they bought the gun.

I suppose I'm just a different colored duck. If the roles were reversed, I wouldn't want someone who looks like me; some 15-20 years the junior, telling me what I should do. Don't you see how insulting that could be. Oh sure there are some men with enough wisdom to see when someone is trying to help out, but I can see how demeaning it would be to have some whipper snapper come along and tell me I should take a course or seek counsel and training from a more proficient individual.

No matter how paranoid I am about gun safety, nothing gives me the right to tell someone they may not have all the facts and skills necessary to be a safe responsible gun owner.

I'm sorry I brought this up:-\

as for shoes, slip ons are your friend:)

Astra don't be sorry you brought it up, I give you kudos for manning up and replying back to most all the points raised.

I think depending on how you act that anyone might be somewhat thankful for a tip or two. Especially when all you are really doing is turning them onto a resource that would be helpful if they choose to check it out.

Academy ... lady walks up and wants to go through the background check and all. Guy behind the counter tells her she needs to pick out a gun first. "Oh? Okay, what do you recommend?" I have no idea if she'd ever held a gun before or not. Behind the counter guy patiently starts describing what they have and how they work... I left.

I think that it takes a lot of balls to go into a gunstore without someone who knows about firearms and want to get a firearm and know how to use it. I am glad that more people are taking the initiative to get involved in their right to defend themselves. If it has become too much of a hassle to teach new people about firearms, then I suggest that the trainers and gun store owners get together and come up with a better way to advertise and better schedules to teach people. I run into people everyday who want to purchase a big, bad, "guns are scary and I've always been told that only bad people have them" firearm. The desire is out there, the demand needs to be met.

let's go back to basics. There are no dumb questions, only stupid people who fail to ask for information.

Not a bad idea.

When I read this I thought of Harley Davidson's Edge course for new riders. New to motorcycles...no problem, buy a Harley and learn how to ride from them.

So why not the same with firearms? New to firearms?...No problem, buy one from us and will teach you the basics of operation and safety.
