Senators Introduce New (2019) Assault Weapons Ban

Are you shocked? This is my shocked face: 馃槕

Feinstein proudly announces that she and other Senators (you  know, the ones who supposedly work for all of us) have announced a new Assault Weapons Ban that would prohibit the manufacture and sale of 205 different firearms.

If you've been on the sidelines and not calling, emailing, writing, and visiting your elected representatives to oppose this garbage... get after it.  You can't expect the NRA, GOA, 2AF, FPC and other orgs to do it for you.  YOUR voices matter more than theirs do to your representatives.

AFAIK, she has introduced that every term since the first one expired.

The Manchin-Toomey "universal" background check for example was an amendment to her AWB bill of that session, where it would have simply replaced all the other verbiage in the bill. After it failed, then they of course voted to nix her original bill also.

What's your point?  Let's be complacent and ignore her again because that punch she's thrown the past 20 times never made contact?

As I believe TGO David is suggesting, this and all other activities by the Enemies of Freedom should be vigorously opposed.  Just because their efforts have failed in the past doesn't mean they always will.  Remember that the first "assault" weapons ban passed, and its supporters would love to see it back in place.  Remember also that the administration of our current president, who was once a gun-grabbing Democrat, has already imposed the bump stock ban.  They are not our friends.

I like that

"Last year we saw tens of thousands of students nationwide take to the streets to demand action...."

Tens of thousands out of the population of 325 million. So lets say 65000...or .02% of the population. Just as a comparison, there are estimated to be 251,000 Amish in the US. So should we all turn off our electricity?

Stupid people pushing personal agendas and firing up those too lazy to think for themselves.

My point was merely for historical perspective to those who likely don't know this.

And yes, of course, it's always a concern. Especially in the next Congress, where there seems a decent likelihood of a Dem sweep of all three branches.

Importantly, ever since 2004, there have always been enough purple state Dems in DC to join the Republicans in staving off another AWB.

But it's clear that the constituencies have changed for both many Dems AND some Republicans in various states, to the point that a "common sense gun safety" stance isn't necessarily the ballot killer it has been in the past.

The common sense of tomorrow will be that there's no way we can collect millions of semi automatic rifles from people that don't really like us to begin with. At the end of the day, there is always the real purpose of the second amendment.

Attrition, mi amigo, attrition -- major legal changes take effect as much over time as immediately.

Few of our progeny will remain criminals by stashing banned firearms they can't even shoot without risk of the hoosegow,

It's brilliant timing as well.   The democrats can offer this up in negotiations for the wall.   "We will give you the money you want if you sign this bill."   Trump will agree and will sign it if it gets to his desk.  Win win for them and Trump will tout it as a major victory.

Sure. Just not in time for you or me. Frankly, I'm about ready to quit paying attention to any of it. If the newer crop wants to fit into the world of toxic masculinity, it's up to them. Worse things than dying, I reckon.

Nah, no AWB yet. Might be the vehicle for Universal Background checks though, just like 5 years ago, likely with a better chance of getting through the Senate this time if Mitch is told to hear it.  Although I believe a separate UBC bill has already come out of the House (or just been announced, I forget which).

Thank God I didn't leave anyone to have to wade through the "snowflake" future which is our country.

Don't go cluttering up things with facts.  No one ever won a vote by presenting facts.
