How can I use the serial number on my grandfathers old revolver to track its history? Maybe even get some manufactury info on it. Anyone has any ideas?

I had the same problem several years ago with a S&W .38 special my Grandfather passed down. Went to the Mfg and got all the info I needed.

You might try that.

That actually is the exact gun I am trying to track. Its stainless with wooden grips. Do you by any chance remember where you went exactly?

I would like to know just basic things like how old it is and if it had previous owners and such. . .

If it is a Smith & Wesson manufactured handgun for $50 you can get a history letter from S&W. It will tell you when the gun was manufactured, what options it had when it left the factory and who it shipped to.

If you just want to know when it was made, post the model number and serial number (you can use X’s for last two numbers if you like) here and anyone with a SCSW can tell you.

But since most states don’t register firearms there is no way for you to check previous owners.
