How much to check out a revolver?

I realize it could vary widely, but on average, what would a gunsmith charge to check out a gun to see if it is safe to use? I have an old Spanish revolver chambered for .38 Long Colt that was given to me. I know some of these guns were very cheaply made and I really don't want to fire a weapon that's going to become a bomb in my hand, but I also don't want to sink a lot of money into a gun that cost me nothing to acquire. I'm in the Gallatin area, if anybody has any suggestions.

Sam Hoster is about as good as it gets when it comes to gun smiths. He does all my work and is reasonable in his pricing. You will like doing business with him.......JMHO
