appraisal of old Kentucky long rifle

Recommended Posts

Posted (edited)

My dad wants me to pick up his original KY long rifle that he's had since the early 1960's. The builder was a watchmaker in the Charlotte NC area and this was supposedly one of his showpieces. My dad has paperwork on the rifle along with accessories form the original purchase. To my knowledge it was originally test fired and then fired by my dad and a friend and cleaned about 20 years ago.

He lives in eastern NC. I am in Nashville. I'm looking for a reputable shop/person between these points who could give me a value as I hope to sell the rifle.

I would appreciate any suggestions and/or advice.

Thank you.

Here is a link to one of the best sites for info on long rifles there is. My best guess is that your rifle sight unseen value is between 1200 to 2500 dollars depending on fit and finish. I know that is a big swing but sight unseen it is what it is. Can you post a pic or 3?

I'm in Nashville and the rifle is in NC. I'm going to ask my sister to take pics and get the info. She is in NC. If I can get the into I'll post it here.

Thanks

Just saw this thread and I am curious if you ever got the rifle and have any pictures.   I am interested in this type of rifle.

My dad died in Sept 2022 and I inherited this rifle. I've since moved to Maryville due to the March 2020 tornado in Nashville.

Looking for an appraiser and possible purchaser for this rifle in East TN, western NC, possibly western VA.

Any help appreciated.

Thanks

I hate to burst your bubble, but looking at the pics you provided leads me to believe the value of your rifle is that of a wall hanger decoration piece. It is a neat piece of history, but the condition seems to dictate that is just about it. I surely wouldn't attempt to fire it.
