I'm screwed the only decent internet provider in my area is the cable provider & they won't give you decent speed unless you bundle a bunch of crap you don't want/ need

What provider is it? I've never seen an ISP only give faster speeds if you have other services. For the past 13 years I've had 4 different providers and none of them have required other services for faster speeds.

So having finally upgrade to a "smart" tv, we're talking about turning the dish off and going the hulu, Netflix, prime route.

My first question regards data usage. We'll have to upgrade our internet service and u-verse seems to be the best option, but it's a 1TB monthly limit. Is that enough?  There's 4 of us using the wifi and I'm not sure what adding streaming tv on top of that will do.

I read that HD programming is roughly 3GB/hr which means 333hrs per month.  That's probably more than double what we'd normally watch, but the phone/iPad/pc surfing will add to that.  I've no idea what our current monthly data usage is.

Do you have WiFi? Sounds like a dumb question but my Netgear unit has a PC program that I can check usage by the day or month and how many devices are currently connected. Apparently 12 devices at random times, gross.

Last month with all that and a work from home corporate career spouse, I used .125 TB or 125,000MB. Smart TV in the house too. Kids love streaming YouTube.

Yep, we have wifi now. There's probably a way to check data, I just don't know how. I'm not computer illiterate, just that between the wife and kids, I hardly ever use the PC.

ATT has comments to the effect that their data limit is comparatively huge, which it may very well be, but they're also trying to sell me something....   I'm just trying to validate that.

We cancelled cable and went the Amazon Fire stick route. Yesterday I boosted our data plan to 1,25 tb. I don't miss cable at all.
