Anybody shoot their older rifles much?

Same here. I don't have a convienent place to shoot rifles, which makes it even harder to find the time.

I finally joined an outdoor range, but I haven't got to go yet. I would love to go shoot the Mosin Nagants I have more than I do. Time and wear her are my enemy.

I did take my US M1917 out for it’s 100th birthday last week and it was thoroughly enjoyable.

Depends what you consider 'old'.  Every couple of years, I exercise my old 1865 Spencer carbine.  More often, I put a few rounds through a 1903 Springfield.  A Garand often gets some range time as do a Marlin 39 and Remington 12.

Most commonly taken to the range are my old FN FAL and Remington 66.

Every now and again, the M1917 Lewis and original AR10 get some exercise.

i would love to take my mosin and sks out more but time and not having a place thats not crowded to shoot is what makes it difficult

I've got some in the WWII range. Thats about as old as I got. Although one of my Mosin's is a 1936 and I have a shotgun from about '36. Just don't have much time anymore. I've heard people my whole life talk about not having time for anything, now I know what they mean.

I used to shoot my Mosins a lot. They're definitely a lot of fun. Built like a tank too. The ammo used to be cheap and plentiful. Its still not all that bad.

i probably have a couple thousand rounds of 54r not the surplus though

The 7.62 x 54R is the oldest smokeless powder round still serving duty ! Speaks well for reliability ! What nation decided on 30 caliber first ?

There was a 30 rimfire that dates to the 1860's, I don't know much about it.  The Brits introduced the .303 in the 1880's, the first several years it was a black powder cartridge, before morphing into a smokeless round ...

That might depend on what .30 caliber is.

.303 British and 7.62x54 Russian are nearly identical and both use a .311 bullet.

The first US rifle in .30 caliber was the .30-40 adopted in the early 1890’s to counter European developments in that caliber range.  It fires a .308 projectile as do all following all US military developed .30’s.

Lack of free time seems to be my enemy at the current time. I have the guns, ammo, and shooting range, but have not made it a priority for a while.

Sadly, the last time was the Summer of 2016. Dusted off my circa ‘54 Springfield M1  and joined a bud down near Ponchatoula, La for a Garand Clinic & Shoot. Way too long a hiatus.

Shot my M1 Carbine about a year ago.

Extractor broke, haven't shot it since I repaired.

I had a bolt break on one a while back. Another bolt costed more than I paid for the carbine way back when.

I fixed a M1 Carbine for my brother in law. Replaced extractor and ejector. Theres a reason they make a bolt tool that holds everything together while you work on it. WOAH! I almost never shoot mine. When I get time though I want to shoot my Mosins and M1 Garand.

Had my original 1873 Springfield to the range a few weeks back.

Lots of fun throwing 510gn subsonic loads at silly distances! The 4ish second wait to hear if I've hit steel at 800yds always gives me a tingle. I'm always amazed by how many people stop shooting to see if they can hear it too!

I try to get out at least monthly and typically will be out more frequently than that in the summer. But I am a bit overdue currently...

I can shoot every day if I want to, I only live 8 miles from CRC. It's been a while since I've shot any of my Finn Mosins or  Mausers as I'm shooting bullseye pistol every Wednesday morning at the club.

I host a surplus shoot twice a year in the spring and fall and get to shoot them some but most of my time is taken up with cooking lunch and RO duty.

I used to shoot almost every weekend about 10 years ago. Now I’m lucky if I go out once every 6 months or so.
