Lots of good shooting left in that one as long as it doesn’t come apart.  😀

i figure i might get one good shot before it disintegrates into dust in my hands

i got some pb blaster and sprayed the top receiver screw a few times before bed lastnight and this morning tried to get it out but couldnt, i will probably take a wire wheel to it and get more of the rust off and i will also buy and try a impact srewdriver and if that does not work i will have to drill that screw out which i have never done before

Keep trying the PB Blaster. Put a torch to the receiver adjacent to the screw, not the screw itself. Heat until the oil starts to smoke. Try a manual impact driver. Repeat the oil/heat/impact cycle several times. It'll come out.

And don't burn the house down. :)

A lot of folks swear by a 50/50 mix of acetone and ATF for penetrating oil.  Several online tests have shown it to be superior to all the currently available concoctions for removing rusty fasteners. Soak the offending part, let it sit overnight, with an occasional drop or 2 added is the usual recipe ...

I’m a Kroil man.  Squirt in on and let it work it’s magic.  It takes patience.  Many of the other recommendations are going to destroy the stock.

All of these pictures sadden me. To be honest, I would have probably just abandoned it. I remember what these sold for, and they were nearly like new at $79.99. However, you seem enthusiastic and committed, so I really, really hope you continue with this project and come up with something good.

Sounds expensive, for a $100 rifle. You did realize that you can find examples of wartime, refurb Mosins on Armslist and similar sites for $200 or so, right? Not as common as in the past, but I still see ads for them in this price range weekly ...
