$119.99 Mosin with pictures!

Hey everyone so I bought one of the $119.99 mosins from classicfirearms and here is some pictures

*WARNING* the following pictures are not for the faint of heart! You have been warned!

also after wacking the bolt open with a rubber mallet I took it out and disassembled it and found that except for one part it’s in very good shape and should clean up nicely!

Do they sell PB Blaster in 55 gallon drums? I don't think a 5 gallon bucket will be enough.

I’m going to pick up some tomorrow to get the top receiver screw out, the bottom one was not to bad

I guess Ivan forgot to pee down the barrel after using corrosive ammo.

Lil bit of sandpaper and it will shoot fine...

 

Guy I know you to soak rusty car parts in cola. It cleaned them up amazingly well.

Sad that these are no longer cheap and plentiful. I had an M44 about 8 years ago. Paid I think $140 or so for it. It was in great condition, and a blast to shoot. Wish I had kept it.

If the exterior is any indication of the what the bore has going on, I don't know if it's worth the trouble to clean up.

I have a couple and a bunch of ammo. Might be time to let em go.

yup there is a m44 for sale at a shop not to far from me for about 415

just ordered a bore camera to look inside to see how it all looks, should be here tomorrow (thanks amazon prime!)

someone on another forum suggested getting the barrel and action sandblasted, only issue with that is i dont know of any company that would do that especially with how guns are portrayed nowadays

That's likely to do more harm than good. If not carefully done, it's easily possible to blow away parts of the action entirely.  There's not much left in some places. 

Glass beads would work better to remove the corrosion than sand (AlOx) with less metal loss.  That said, I'd probably do it by hand. You'll have more in the blast work than you paid for the rifle.

agreed, i also posted this on another forum and someone said if the bore and whole receiver is good but the barrel is trash could just rebarrel it

True I also just bought a stripped m39 receiver that I have plans for but for this one I am just going to work on it for fun

You could build an electrolysis tank and remove the rust scientific like but it would remove the bluing as well...if that’s a concern at this point.
