S&W 625 question

HELP

I have seen posts about not buying pistols from a pawn shop, but let me ask. A pawn shop near me has two S&W 625's each priced at $679. One says mountain gun on the barrel and the other just says smith and wesson. I have been wanting to get into revolver competition for quite some time and have heard that the 625 is the way to go. my question is, are either of these guns a good deal and what is the differance between the two of them. Thanks for any help you can provide.

Go back and check out the one that says Mountain Gun.Is it .45 ACP or .45 Colt ?.They made them in both calibers. The .45 ACP version being the more rare of the two but also the one you would want for competition. If it is .45 Colt then the other 625 is what you want.Reason I say that is the .45 ACP guns work with the full moon clips making reloading a lot faster.

If you are going to shoot competition, the pencil-barreled Mountain Gun KICKS! Try to find the full lug version. It is monumentally faster for repeat shots. ;)

The good thing about the 45 Auto in the revolver is you can shoot IDPA SSR with 45 Auto Rim ammo. I have no doubt you will go back and pick up the brass. :ugh:

I use the 200 gr Cowboy bullet made for the 45 Colt's. This bullet at Major Speed will put down ANY plate. Seat just above the lube groove, and a light crimp.;)

The 625 with Auto Rim brass is my all time favorite large bore revolver.:bs:

If you are the type who likes to tailor your reloads to the gun then a combo of a 200 gr rn bullet and Clays powder is VERY managable in a 625 Mountain Gun.Like I said they did not make very many of them and the classic profile wins style points if nothing else over any ugly full lugged barrel Smith.

The 625 Mountain Gun is sweet, mine is my favorite revolver hands down. The recoil is not bad, and I like the weight biased towards the back of the gun, for me it makes transitions faster. I shot mine for a season of IDPA and had a ball with it. If you are a shooter and you get to shoot a 625 of any persausion be prepared to buy, they are fine guns.

Smokin' deal Johnny! That's a gorgeous gun. Now do you reload for .45? You can work up some substantial loads for those wheelies that you can't put in an auto.

Fo Shizzle! Dude that's awesome! Get you some 45 AR (autorim) brass so you don't have to bother with moonclips. There's a whole school of guys who load up their 45's extra hot, as revolver cylinders are generally stronger than auto chambers, and you don't have to worry about recoil spring rates and battering the frame so bad. Go to www.smith-wessonforum.com and go to the reloading section, then do some searching for "45 AR" etc, and you'll find a wealth of info!

Maybe I'll try and stop by some day. I really want to work with a Dillon a little and see how it all goes.
