Saturday's Howitzer shoot

Time for the scale mountain howitzer shoot! We shot everything from golf clubs to pool balls at the targets. 13 rounds in all. What you see is 3.5" bore with 4 oz of pyrodex or goex. In this case....... BIGER is always Better! The cannon belongs to the guy I bought my home from. We shoot it right along my drive way. Sorry, the audio isn't recordable in Imagur off a PC. Needless to say, its pretty beafy.

In one shot, J.C. got 5 clubs in there in front of a soft ball for the seal. From the amount of leaves they knocked out of the trees down there, it would be a great way to get apples down out of an apple tree. One base ball bat went completely threw one of the press board sheets side ways. Biggest key hole on a target I ever saw. Made a hell of a slapping noise on that one
On the second shot, it scored a direct hit on a full size race car driver card board cut out with a pool ball. He has blue leathers on. You can see him go down.

I was able to participate in a private shootenanny of a full-size Civil War cannon one time.  It was great fun as I bet this was.

You would have dug the 6’ heavy chain slicing through the car.

That's the best use of a Dodge Omni that I have seen in a very long time.  😆

We shot it until it quit moving.

We put a lot of rounds into that vehicle. I'm trying remember, was that 2010? I know we were near lewisburg but can't recall the exact month and year. Good times!

So basically, you used a .22 to disable it and never touched off the cannon... :D

The cannon got first crack, and then we all finished it off. Like Erik said, we put a LOT of rounds into that car. It was at least 10 of us.

The cannon was fired multiple times. We were in a really rural area but we made so much noise a deputy eventually showed up. He seemed more curious than concerned.

We were only 5 miles from the center of town, The Cumberland County seat. Nobody around here flinched about the noise. The 35 or 40 on lookers were mostly from J.C.'s Church and he has this shoot every October.  Folks Love it.  These are my kind of people....... Love it here!

Thanks Mike, I didn't take pics. That was a blast in more ways than one.

These photos show some of the guns fired during the cannon shoot in Pelham.  The shoot was held earlier this Spring.

I have it labeled as March 2011.  I don't see any Jackets so it must have been a warm March or I have the month wrong.  Regardless, here is one of the only pictures I have that have you in it.

And a playlist of the videos from that day.

I wondered what happened to that car! I came out from my weekly meeting of the Democratic Fundraiser Society and it was gone.

I'm amazed those people fired that cannon with only one form of ear protection. I remember having to double up that day. Good times were had all around though.

I had a single layer on, and it hurt me.

I wear double ears whenever I’m shooting. I’ve already lost too much hearing from working around aircraft, and big Diesel engines.
