Rant: Snubbies and new shooters

I'm not going to say autos are evil or that revolvers are super weapons. I own both and in my lifetime I have carried both, including into combat. The problem right now is that the ideal beginner's revolver is no longer being made in sufficientlty large quantities. . I am talking of course about the K-Frame with 3 or 4 inch barrel. You can buy a new Model 10 in 4" or you can buy the BMW! The weapon is way overpriced for a utility gun. Smith says it is a classic so they charge an arm and a leg for it.

The alternative today is a Ruger SP101 in longer barrel or a S&W 36 or 640 in Stainless with a 3" barrel. They will do but neither is the match for the Model 10/64 in 3".

Smith needs to bring back the 64 in 3" and in a "plain Jane" version that is priced lower. That would be the revolver to start with.

In a semi-auto I would say a service length 9MM. In most cases the mid sized autos (G19/G23 size) have an even heavier spring and can be harder to rack. Most of the .45s have too big of grips for a gal's hand. The 1911 has an acceptable grip but is not a good gun to start with. I say that based on the fact that I carried one on duty for 30 years. It is a well trained pistolero's gun, (and still probably the best out there for a pro!) but not a novice's gun.

There are semi-auto pistols which really CAN fire DA on first round, and then become SA on subsequent rounds, and I thought you were actually claiming there was a revolver that could do the same.

That would be the Webley-Fosbery Self-Cocking Automatic Revolver.

Exactly right...anybody make a decent IWB holster for it?
