NPR confirms reported number of school shootings was false

Even NPR can be objective once in while.

"How many times per year does a gun go off in an American school? We should know. But we don't.

This spring the U.S. Education Department reported that in the 2015-2016 school year, "nearly 240 schools ... reported at least 1 incident involving a school-related shooting." The number is far higher than most other estimates.

But NPR reached out to every one of those schools repeatedly over the course of three months and found that more than two-thirds of these reported incidents never happened. Child Trends, a nonpartisan nonprofit research organization, assisted NPR in analyzing data from the government's Civil Rights Data Collection.

We were able to confirm just 11 reported incidents, either directly with schools or through media reports."

It sounds like they have shootings and guns found in schools all included in their stats. I hear many times of guns being found in Back Packs but not actually discharged. It is mentioned many times on News Channel 5 at 5 about a gun found in a students back pack, even in grammer schools. If they are putting those together with actual school shootings they might get closer to that figure........JMHO

Data collection depends on what the person is trying to show. I don’t know how many times I have seen things compared where the way the data was corrected was sketchy at best and many times outright lying.

You would think it would be very easy to get very specific data on school shootings. The FBI or the CDC should publish that information…. I don’t know that they don’t.

It boils down to the family unit, Doctors, Teachers, Friends, and Law Enforcement. I’m not sure any of that data will be instrumental in fixing the problem.
