Mauser 8M background?

Recommended Posts

Hello and glad to find this site.

I have an 8m Mauser that appears to be turned into a hunting rifle.  On the barrel it is stamped S/42 and then below that is a stamp 1936.  There is a very cool carving of an elk in the stock with the initials EKH.

My grandfather was a pilot trainer in WW2.  I believe one of his students brought it back for him.

Thanks for any help you can provide.  If you prefer to text my number is (615) 293-0779, Erik

S/42 was one of the manufacturer’s codes for Mauser Oberndorf.  In other words the Mauser factory in Oberndorf, Germany. 1936 indicates the year the original rifle in K98 configuration was made.

Looks like a very well done customization.

Based on the carved stock, I'm guessing whoever sporterized it did it right.

The metal finish still looks new.

I'm not a hunter, target shooter, or know much about 8mm, but I imagine this would be a good option to a modern large caliber rifle. (Kinda like my SMLE sporter)

A buddy also has a Mauser action rebarrelled in .308...loves it.

Enjoy your heirloom, whether you shoot it, pass it down or find it a new loving home!
