Shotgun barrel threading

Does anyone know of any Smith in middle TN that offers choke threading for shotgun barrels?

I just picked up a Mossberg Maverick 88 for up close hog hunting & the patterns it throws with any buckshot load are pretty abysmal. I've tried 4 different loads & none make me smile beyond 20yds. It's a cylinder bore & I'd really like to get it cooked down to Mod if possible.

If there's no one local, has anyone had any experience with Comp-N-Choke's services down in Georgia?

Before you send it anywhere you need to know if the barrel is thick enough for a threading. I have tooling for Win Choke II which is same as Mossberg Accu or Browning Invec and you need no less than .860 at the mouth O.D. Sometimes you can find that at a shorter length but shorter can diminish the effect of the choke to a degree.

If you are the DIY kind of guy, try https://4drentals.com/product/12-gauge-rem-choke-tap-reamer/

7 day rental of tap and reamer for $54. Just watched there video and a couple other's and it seems pretty do able. I am thinking seriously of doing it.

xtriggerman, what would you charge to thread a barrel if someone brought one to you?

4D rentals is a pretty good outfit. I'v used them several times over the years and they have kept their price steady over the decades. I would knock one out for a $60 dollar tip. But your right, its not rocket science, just take your time, lots of threading lube, go a little at a time, clean the chips, go a little more. Its just time consuming for a nice job.

That is very reasonable. I can't do it this weekend, but maybe next some evening next week or on the weekend whichever is better for you. I leave work at 4:30pm Eastern so by 5:30 or 6 your time pretty easily. Just let me know what works for you.
