I currently use a Goldenrod dehumidifier In my safe and was thinking about getting a hydrometer to measure the humidity to see if the Goldenrod is keeping the moisture down in my safe.  Are they necessary? Do they compliment a dehumidifier?

Are they necessary? I don't really think so, but it is a good to keep track of the humidity level inside your safe. Just a little added peace of mind.

I use both in my safes, and have a room dehumidifier also. We have a lot of humidity due to water near the house.

I've bought mine from Amazon. Around 12 bucks iirc. Some higher, some lower. Stay away from the cheap models. In my experience they fail to give accurate readings, and sometimes not work at all.

Yes, I've experienced this thru trial and error with the products.

What price range should I go for? I saw this on Amazon. Would it be any good?

I don't see the model I bought, but I have 4 of them and they all seem to be accurate. Figures read virtually the same in the safes.

Both the ones listed above should be good.

I use a large bag of color changing silica gel in my safe, but I do use a Hygrometer for my cigars. You can test it very easily using a salt test. https://m.wikihow.com/Test-a-Hygrometer

I'll start the test in the evening and check it in the morning. To be honest I've found little difference in accuracy of hygrometer. Price gets you features, but not more accuracy for anything less than $100. I just note the offset on it with a paint pen and do the math. Almost all are off by 4-5%.

YMMV

With older pieces of Walnut it's not a good thing to be too dry. It's easily split and on certain collector stuff you could take a huge hit on it.
