.338 Lapua or .308 for new "sniper" rifle?

If I didn't have a 308, I'd have one before a 338. The fact that you will always be able to get ammo for it hits my sensibilities from a long term thought processes point of view. Not to mention the cost difference in the ammo. Huge diff.

But, if you don't think in those terms, the 338 is a fine round. My favorite cartridge personally is the 375 H&H, for what I hunt. Followed by the 30-06 and 308. The 223 and 22-250 are great fun for busting prairie dogs too. Fun and no pain.

I love my AR30 in 338LM. I bought a few boxes of Corbon 300gr for 88 a box of 20 but I just looked and the prices has gone up to 94.95 from ammunition to go. I guess I need to call Dillion and get the stuff to start reloading this thing.

I had an AI for a short time, put about 40 rounds thru it before I had to sell. It was a lot of fun and I enjoyed it, but never got to shoot it beyond 1,000 yrds. I have corresponded with Bushmaster concerning the .338 Lapua autoloader developed by Cobb that was 1/2 to 1/4 MOA -- they tell me it will be reintroduced this summer. I'll be in line.

Uhh, If your gonna post gun porn then we need details. Make, model, caliber, scope...

Ah, so your a "gunophile", well since you need those sleezy nasty details.. It is an older Rem action, with a Lothar Walter 25" barrel chambered in 308 with a 95 Palma reamer. Duracoated OD green. Not sure if I am going to jump for the scope yet.. it is a Super Sniper 10X40 with side focus.

May main idea was that I was going to do a M40 clone with a wood stock. Just like the ones in VN years. But I am still in the air with that idea.. though, some kind of tactical rifle I will have when it is all done..

Honestly, I like the .300wm. I haven't fired a .338, but the 300wm has more than enough recoil for me B)

Honestly my AR15 has more kick then my AR30. Now the muzzle blast is another story all to its own, it will clear any bench and it could be possible that small animals could be in danger of getting "blown away".

Now if you were to remove the muzzle break it may have a brisk recoil.
