Trump gets to appoint another Supreme Court Justice

Rumor right now, not official, but the news is reporting Justice Kennedy is submitting his retirement to Trump effective July 31.

He never been the Justice that Reagan was hoping for when he appointed him.  Hopefully, Trump will get a young conservative justice in this time.

The confirmation fight over this one is really going to be something.  We may see a couple of senators fight it out in the Thunderdome....

This one is so critical...nothing would surprise me.  Id say go nuclear on this one, if he nominates a real conservative and a younger one at that.  Supreme Court Justices are arguably the most important thing a President does, or at least the most long acting thing.  Change the rules and make it 51 to get a clear majority of conservatives on the bench.

Which makes the midterms critical.....if the Dems retake the Senate they will do what McConnell did to Garland by refusing to hold confirmation hearings and waiting for the 2020 presidential election.

IF this is true about Kennedy then Trump better have a replacement already queued up ready to go for confirmation and they'd better get that confirmation done before the midterms...just in case that blue wave materializes....

If Trump can replace those 2 with Gorsuch type constructionists then that will go a long way toward keeping this country from spiraling into a "liberal utopia" like the UK...or France....

With Mad Maxine and the other idiots going full retard, I'm expecting a blue trickle.

One has to think that Ginsburg( nearly 86) and Breyer(nearly 80) can't be far behind.

Yes...it will be...uh...interesting to say the least. I was listening to Michael Del Jorno yesterday and this was one of his topics.

He opined that the Democrats and far left liberals would have a major meltdown over just this possibility. Anything that they have delayed and fought in in past will seem to be a kindergarden fight compared to getting another conservative approved.

I see no reason to wait. When one retires another should be ready to step in. The person making the nomination isn’t going to change. We don’t do without a President when the need arises and we shouldn’t do without a full SCOTUS.

As far as a red wave; we can only hope. However, I am skeptical. The Dems will do their best to get every democrat alive and some that aren’t to vote. The republicans better do the same.

I cannot believe that Trump doesn't already have the names of at least three Supreme Court nominees ready to go.  I expect we'll see them test-marketing candidates before the weekend.

The smart move will be to track this promptly through the approval process in the Senate so that we can have a vote before the November elections.  No Demos will vote for Trump's nominee, which means that all available pressure must be brought to bear on every Republican to secure a vote for confirmation.  It's unlikely that any of us living today will ever see a better chance to create a Supreme Court that believes the Constitution means something.

The Demos know this also, which is why they will oppose this harder than anything thus far in the Trump presidency.  I'd say street riots are a likelihood.

It's going to be an interesting summer.

Cheers,

Whisper

Leroy, are you on a first-tweet basis with the Donald?

Ted Cruz is pushing Mike Lee. I think he would make a great Justice, but at the same time, I'd hate to lose a Conservative Senator.  He's only 47 so he'd be around for a long time.

I honestly see this nomination held up for months if not longer. The left will do everything they can to keep a conservative out. And honestly riots in the streets incited by elected officials seems to not be out of the question. If these morons want to disrupt people from eating a quiet dinner what do you think they will do about this. I mean after all...they just selected a Socialist over a guy who was poised to take over the reins from Pelosi.

If it is held up, I fully expect the GOP to invoke Harry Reid and exercise the nuclear option.

I don't foresee it getting held up.  Even on NPR this evening they were predicting a confirmation vote in time for the new justice to be seated before the next Supreme Court session begins in October.

Already discussed. 51 votes is it

Sometimes I get the impression you guys think that the left are the only ones that play dirty. Have you forgotten that this is exactly what the GOP did after Scalia died? So, if this is in fact held up it will simply be a repeat of what McConnell did.

I personally don't think they will have any issue getting the next justice appointed.

I always thought Ted Cruz would make a fine Justice, but I dont want to lose his seat in the Senate...

I'd gladly give up 1 seat in the Senate to put someone like Cruz on the SCOTUS for the next 30-40 years.
